Criticism of revisions like Slim versions or versions with added storage is one thing, I find it strange, but I understand the anger towards revisions with higher specs. It creates an unstable environment for consumers and it defeats one of the main philosophies behind console gaming; everyone's the same, and this is an argument that has been used against PC gamers for a long time, the chasing specs part and upgrading to keep up with gaming.
It also creates somewhat of a headache for developers, especially if there's more than one revisions in any single generation, that would likely entail that the original can't even run the same generation shaders and effects as the newest addition, scaling that takes time and money and a potentially divided audience is not good news for them.

I understand why it's being done though, I wrote in here about this a few years back, the increased need for revision and added features to keep up with the convenience segment that is now driving overall market momentum in consumer electronics, and static products like consoles are more prone to falling behind on tech and perceived value.
