It could be annual or 6 month upgrades that get pushed out by mobile phone companies. You get a small increase in CPU or slightly better camera and the phone is basically the same phone. If you have money to burn you end up with stacks of iPhones and Samsung Galaxy and other smart phones. This is good so your kids and pets can now have a phone. You get that warm fuzzy feeling every time you upgrade your phones and contributing towards the great Capitalist system.
