First and Foremost. I would like to blame the two main participants to the downfall of Bioware.
Fuck you EA and Fuck you Microsoft.
Fuck EA because lets be real, Bioware's changes and dip in quality can solely be blamed on EA. EA acquired Bioware with the full intent on making the company solely responsible for all of its AAA RPG developments. ME3 had a shorter development time then either ME1 and ME2 but yet it was the biggest and complex from a narrative aspect. The revisions in Gameplay helped but with a short dev time of 18 months (Something ridiculous set by the Publisher) ME3 was doomed to fail.
They moved key personnel around, fucked up with the creative input of Bioware and has now forced them to make run of the mill RPGs. It also doesn't help that ME3's horrible fan response saw the two Leaders and founders of Bioware leave the company. I had hope for this game and was hoping for a return to form, that the new breed of Bioware could achieve their former greatness. How wrong was I? Creative input can't foster with a Publisher like EA when they refuse to see the real reason why these games were successful. They were ambitious, driven and made with a purpose. That's how you get games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age and not seeing that is how you get Dragon Age 2 and ME: Andromeda.
Now. Fuck Microsoft. Fuck Microsoft because they didn't appreciate their relationship with Bioware enough to make a counter offer to EA's. This is where Sony differs. If they have a great relationship with you, they look to cement it. You make games for them but you make it the way you want it. Microsoft should have taken that approach with Bioware. MS should have been that olive branch. But because of MS' lack of foresight, EA got them. And now more then ever before MS could have used a Bioware. But alas.
Fuck em.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.
Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
