If you don't like it or it doesn't appeal to you, then don't buy one, I don't think you need any more reason than that.

Lets ignore the fact that every Nintendo device other than Wii U got regular price drops.

I'm waiting for next year when library fills out and those Fire Emblem titles release.

I'd say wait until E3 and see if there will be more bigger games announced for the Switch. If the Switch can keep up it's sales momentum (with MK8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 incoming in the next months I think it will) then you can bet your butt that the big publishers will want a part of the Switch cake too; right now only Squeenix and to a lesser degree Ubisoft are really supporting the console with games.

On the long run I could see it replace your 3DS XL, but I can see why anyone would not buy a Switch just yet.

Buy it this holiday with MK8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Zelda and Mario and you won't regret it.

The only reason the Wii U's price did not drop (unlike other Nintendo consoles) was because its costs of production remained high because of the gamepad's non-standard hardware. The Switch uses much more mainstream hardware, and therefore the costs to produce them should drop steadily over time, allowing NIntendo to remain profitable with each new on sold even if the price is dropped. 

I feel that you're a MH fan and your concerns show that you're not into Switch at all. So, don't bother with it. In case a new MH comes out for it, than you can think about picking up one.

Otherwise, stay away from it.

The most important thing about a console are the games. If there aren't enough games you want to play, then don't buy it (yet).

But I'm quite sure that the Switch will get enough games to be worth it. Nintendo now only has 1 console to develop for, so that means more games for that console.

I know, I just said that in another way (sans the hardware part).Sony and Microsoft fight for market share though so they would risk a price cut. Nintendo doesn't fight head on for market share if it cuts into their profitability. Sony cut the price when they were bleeding money with the PS3, but stayed true to it until the price of blu Ray went down. Eventually they became profitable. Then again...Sony supports their consoles twice as long as Nintendo because they take more financial risks.

One of the deciding factors for me about the Switch was the fact that every title you buy is basically cross buy... if you compare it to the PS4 and Vita systems, if there is a game which comes out to those platforms the majority of the time you have to pay extra if you want to buy even the digital version of the system on both home and handheld systems. With the switch the cost of Zelda got me both the version for my handheld and the home console.

Also another great system selling fact is that the games taste fucking awful... honestly, I had to do it after hearing about it online, first thing out of the box... licked Zelda. Aftertaste goes on for about 20 mins.
