Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit U successor. Any chances?

Tagged games:

i think Nintendo is done with the "games that make you work out" genre. we have 1 2 Switch, but thats just a harmless minigame bundle. and if people want to lose weight or get fit, they can do it without a Switch. hell, if they really cared enough, they could dig their old Wii out of the closet

Mind. Body. Switch!

Combine Brain Age and Wii Fit into one game that works differently depending on how the system is being used.

In portable mode, the game is essentially a brain age type of thing. Touch screen focused games that focus on the mental side of things.

In table top mode, you have very Wii Fitish activities using the balance board primarily, possibly with Joycons. Yoga, Balance, and Strength Training games. A lot of stuff that you can do while you watch TV, like Free Run or Free Boxing from Wii Fit.

Docked mode focuses more on full body exercises, many of which make use of some Brain Ageish elements. If you played Wii Fit Plus or U, think of some of the activities they used for the Fit Test (or whatever the call it). Also some more physically engaging just dancish minigames.

Have it sync up with a calorie counter/nutrition counting app. Or, you could even partner up with Weight Watchers or something to have it count points or whatever they use.

Yes, I think "Switch Fit" or something like that will happen. Can't say it's something I'd buy, I think you'd be better off getting a gym membership or even just doing basic workouts from Youtube, but I guess it could be OK for people who need to really have fitness sugar coated for them. Kinect Fitness and Wii Fit U both kinda flopped though, but since fitness games don't really cost much to make, it's low risk. If it flops, so be it.

It's possible. I even think it might be successful. The Wii U version was really just a remake with a useless accessory tacked on, released on a console that didn't appeal to the mass market at all. It was such a lazy, low-key release. But obviously Nintendo would have to modernise the franchise. There's all sorts of fitness tracking devices these days and the fitness landscape has changed dramatically over the last 10 years.

Releasing an unchanged new Wii Fit game would be equivalent to Sony releasing the next Gran Turismo with the exact same graphics as the PS3 version: Customers expect your products to get better. Core gamers expect better graphics and mass market gamers expect the next product to do a better job as well, just along different lines.

Of course they will. There will always be a market for fitness apps. The irony though is the fat gamers hate them while it was very popular among the fit gamers, along with other products like Just Dance. You would think it would be the other way around since the fat gamers are the ones who need the gaming gimmick to get them to exercise.

That said, the Switch is clearly geared toward more active and fit gamers. It's much more of a Wii successor than the Wii U was, despite the branding.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Nope.... Activison can fill that gap with their 3rd party support.

Switch!!!

Part of me hopes so since I like anything that helps people get fit but the other part of me hopes Nintendo focuses more on less casual projects.

The demand for such game is as high as the demand for a Mario cooking game.

Nah, that fad has passed, surely Nintendo knows this. We probably won't see stuff like Brain Training or Nintendogs either.

They will come. They are cheap enough to make, and they still sell well. Wasn't Nintendogs+cats one of the best selling 3DS for a long time?

Those series used to see new games regularly. I think they already would have come if they planned to continue them, but it's been over 5 years.

Don't see why not.

Have a new board or maybe even use old one as well. But beyond the typical "home" experience of Wii Fit, you could have it to go.

YOu have your switch to prop up on its stand to do your workouts in the hotel room. You have the switch in your purse/bag to take out and input your daily food intake when at a restaurant. Ect.

Wii Fit is not tied ot the WIi branding, its tied to the fitness marketting, which is still a big thing. Make one able to sync their fitness band to the switch game and you will have a very inticing game, or app is probably better description.

It depends, how good are the Joycons as motion controllers?

Personally I think it still has potential as a IP but it won't be a massive seller. Nintendo also pooched it by doing the free to play/rental experiments when releasing Wii Fit U and the remake of Wii Sports on the Wii U.

The brand can still move forward but they will need to use the Joycons and another accessory (not balance board sized, probably a pedometer that synchs your info to the Switch and a online/mobile app) along with a decent campaign. Can't bank on word of mouth like the Wii era to do the advertising, they need to spend some money to get it to the fitness lovers not following game news.

I like those ideas. A portable Switch Fit would be great, yes, and the idea of a pedometer is interesting too.

The balance board is an excelent device though. It corrects you on your exercises, it lets you know about your posture and can measure your weight.

God bless You.
