Forums - Nintendo - Will the new Zelda sell better on wii u or switch?

Don't forget that the ps4 didn't have 50 games for launch either. Be patient, let nintendo draw their cards, and then be ready for the release of games steadily. Nintendo released everything in 2014 and it hit them hard. With the amount of IP's that have no game announced yet, I don't think there's a cause for concern

I just can't bring myself to buy another system that only gets about 5 games I care about per year, like Wii U did. I am however, willing to wait and give Nintendo time to show that this won't be the case with Switch. I have enough of a backlog on my 360 and retro consoles to keep me going through this year and next.

Very true.

When the 3DS came, I recall people saying it would only sell 20m, but it ended up gaining amazing games and a more affordable price.

I might wait again and see. I really want to play Arms and Mario Odyssey- heck, I'm more hyped for the Mario game than BotW (crazy how Mario seems to always get better). So thankfully it's a win-win for those getting right away and those who wait. Waiting gives you the advantage of potentially lower prices on the hardware and games. I bought my first ps3 just a few months ago, and the most expensive game I bought was Jak and Dexter trilogy for only $10 brand new.

Yeah I'm super hyped for Mario Odyssey also, but I know I'll regret it if I buy the console for one game, so I'm gonna wait til there's at least 5-6 games I want, plus a healthy future ahead. I bought my Wii U too early, and I won't make that mistake again.

So far I'm excited for:

-Zelda

-mario

-Fire Emblem

-ARMS

-Spla2oon

A good list, but I can't wait for Animal Crossing, Kirby, DK, and so many other franchises. Imagine the potential with Animal Crossing in HD- makes me shed a tear.

Yeah I want Splatoon 2 also, just not super hyped as I'd be buying it for the single player only. Zelda I'm getting on Wii U.

Then again, we don't really know much about Switch's lineup beyond this year, so I'm sure there's plenty of unannounced titles I'll want.

It may sell more on Wii U in the first month or two, if there really only 2mm Switches available. But, it will certainly sell more on the Switch in the long run.

I would think that 90% of the WiiU sales will happen within a month or two if launch. Those are the people who have been waiting for the game, but either don't want, or can't get a Switch at launch. I think there could be a couple million of these people. I may well be one of them.

Essentially everyone (probably 95%) that buys a Switch near launch will be buying this game. Even so, if the install base is only 2mm, that means only 1.9mm copies of BotW on Switch at that point.

In the longer term though, it seems reasonable you expect the game to sell well on Switch at least through holiday 2017, when the install base should grow substantially. This means far more sales on the Switch overall.
