Forums - Nintendo - Will the new Zelda sell better on wii u or switch?

I do understand where maxleresistant is coming from; as a Wii U owner myself, I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a little burned by it, and as a result Switch is the first Nintendo system I'm wary of buying.

I'm perfectly fine getting it, as nintendo has fixed a lot of the mistakes they made with the Wii U. Also, portability is great.

Am I disappointed with the Wii  u? Yes; in all honesty, I think nintendo should've gone with a simple but powerful console to get 40m units, and then go on to the switch. The Wii U felt like a premature switch that wasn't ready to be released.

That's a pretty good description of the Wii U actually; it felt like a kind of half-arsed Switch made before the technology was there yet to do it properly.

The main thing that pissed me off with Wii U was the game droughts, and I'm not yet reassured that this won't be a problem with Switch; it's first year is looking a bit sparse.

I still can't tell if you take your own points seriously or not.

Honestly, If I were to have my way there wouldn't even be a Wii U option. Waste of time and resources, Zelda has the capability to push a lot of Switch Hardware right out the gate. Every ounce of energy at Nintendo should be directed into making sure BOTW is the greatest gamer of all time.

In a perfect world where everyone else has moved on from the Wii U I would agree with you, but images must be kept.

It will still push a lot of Switch hardware.

Still releasing it on Wii U was the right move, as it showed customers that Nintendo could be trusted to keep their promises. It would have significantly damaged their relationship with their fanbase if they'd canned the U version.

I don't think the promise should have been made in the first place. For all intents and purposes the Wii U has been dead for the last 12 Months. Turning over a new leaf and letting go of that dead carcass of a console would have been the move that says "We are Completely that our last attempt was a failure and we are fully commited to the vision that we believe corrects that 100%"

Hanging on to the Wii U is a sign of weakness and lack of confidence.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Don't forget that the ps4 didn't have 50 games for launch either. Be patient, let nintendo draw their cards, and then be ready for the release of games steadily. Nintendo released everything in 2014 and it hit them hard. With the amount of IP's that have no game announced yet, I don't think there's a cause for concern

I get the feeling that Nintendo will undership the Wii U version to make sure the switch version sells more.

I really want to play BOTW, but I havent found enough justification in purchasing a Switch, which IMO is priced way too high. Especially since Nintendo hasn't really proven to me that its worth the commitment of becoming a PS4/PC/Switch owner when I can just upgrade to the Pro and not miss a damn thing.

Abandoning the Wii U version would have sent the message to their hardcore fans that "you can't trust us, we're willing to lie to you and screw you over."

On the other hand, retaining it does practically no harm; Wii U owners don't feel screwed over, making them more likely to continue supporting Nintendo in the future, while the game will still move millions of Switch units since most buyers either want the premium version or don't have a Wii U anyway. Everybody wins.

I just can't bring myself to buy another system that only gets about 5 games I care about per year, like Wii U did. I am however, willing to wait and give Nintendo time to show that this won't be the case with Switch. I have enough of a backlog on my 360 and retro consoles to keep me going through this year and next.
