Lets hope Japan falls for it. Im thinking you're anticipating 3DS sales. Then again...i'm hearing rumors that Nintendo working on a 3DS succesor. For the sake of the switch, I hope this is not true. Correct me if I am wrong, but arent all mainline Pokemon games on the primary portable that Nintendo offers? Anything on the console for Pokemon is secondary compared.

Seeing as how the Switch is getting a new Fire Emblem in Japan, as I mentioned, plus Dragon Quest X and XI, to go along with DQ Heroes I & II at launch. Also, the team behind Bravely Default and Bravely Second on the 3DS is working on a new RPG for the Switch, THAT should be a key hint that the Switch IS the 3DS successor to go along with the Wii U successor.
And you are correct, all mainline Pokemon games go to the handheld. Spinoffs go to the console. But with recent rumors of the 3rd Sun/Moon game being on Switch (doubt it's true, since it would be on the 3DS or at least cross-gen if it was), I think we will see mainline Pokemon on the Switch. But it'll be another 2-3 years before we see Gen VIII, so no use speculating now. Speaking of cross-gen, Fire Emblem Warriors, is cross-gen between the New 3DS and Switch, if the Switch wasn't a successor to the 3DS, I don't think they would have made that game available on both systems, ESPECIALLY considering that the definitive version will be the Switch version (going off of Hyrule Warriors experience because the 3DS verison of that game runs like basura.) They did that as a way of saying "Hey, New 3DS owners, we'll give you this game on your system, BUT there's this other system where it'll run much better and look much better PLUS it's ALSO portable and you can take it with you JUST like the 3DS." I don't think we're seeing another dedicated handheld from Nintendo to succeed the 3DS to go along with Switch, because:
a) Having 2 new portable systems side by side would be redundant and a waste of resources.
b) The DS line has reached its Twilight. It's time to move on to something else. I mean where else is there to go? HDS? The Switch has that area covered.
c) It would be a lot more beneficial for them and for us, if they have just one system to develop for. This way those Wii U droughts never happen again.
2017 will be the last year they support the 3DS, and then from 2018 onwards, it's all eyes and hands on deck on the Switch.

That makess sense and you've kind of got my hyped. Problem is if we've listened to what Reggie said recently though, the correlation does not mean its a 3DS successor. It only means games traditionally on the 3DS will make the leap onto the Switch. This makes the deal of owning one sweeter in my book. They are finally learning that they need to beef up their first party on the platform, which hindered the Wii U in the first place with growing names between both the 3DS and the Wii U. Problem for that theory is that the gimmick of the switch is to to be a mobile home console and Reggie stated that clearly. Its been evident though that Nintendo likes the idea of making a real portable because they can amass a massive library at a cheaper price.

You succeeded at hyping me up for the Switch a little more. This is the point of debate...which is educated disucssion. Personally, I dont care how it sells, I was going to get it later....but perhaps now it might be sooner.  All I know is Wii U sales are a record low for Nintendo and they need a console with a steady stream of titles.

Have a good one.

I think the fact that Reggie stated that games usally on 3DS will make the leap onto Switch gives a pretty solid idea that the Switch will be a successor to the 3DS as well. And I agree in the aspect that they like making a great library for a cheap price, I think we may see, in due time, a price cut to $250 and simliar to the DS and 3DS, some Switch revisions and models, like a Switch Lite at $200, making the jump substantially easier for 3DS owners. Like I said, they want to get the Wii U audience first, hence why Reggie promoted it as a mobile home console, and then when the time is right, they'll start pushing the "HD handheld" aspect of it and get the 3DS audience on board. Time will tell if that actually happens or not, but we'll see.

ANd I agree 100%, happy to have an educated discussion. And they need to truly deliver a healthy stream of games.
You have a good one as well.

I wouldnt be so sure that the Switch is the successor to the 3DS as Reggie said, but other than that its all good. ;)

More artificial scarcity to be sure.

Did people expect play zelda using the joycons?

Sounds to me like many aren't trusting the Joy-con controllers and jumping right away to the Pro controllers lol

Maybe it's just imma broke***, but i'd at least give the Joy-con controllers a try first before even considering buying a Pro controller.

I got no beef with the joycons - not while using them together with the grip (the "dog controller") at least.. But the pro controller to me just looks like it'd be more comfortable for me to use, particularly for the bigger, more complex games like Zelda.

I do feel using the separate joycons, especially without the extender, would feel somewhat awkward with my biggish hands, and also the joystick appears a bit too close to the face buttons when playing them on their side, but then, there have been reports of people saying it feels better than it appears, so who knows. To me it just makes more sense to buy the pro controller for 70 bucks, as opposed to an additional set of joycons when I already get one included, plus the charging grip for another 30 or whatever it is.

If you want to make a second two-handed controller out of just Joycons you will need two Joycons, and the grip.

That is $80 + $15 (or $30 for the grip that charges).

So I assume people are picking up the $70 controller (with a d-pad) over a $95(or 110) Joycon bundle.

You're probably right that players are already looking into wanting a second controller and guess they might as well go with the Pro since it has the D-pad and is cheaper.

Knowing me I will probably get a second Joy-con controller as it can double up as a second and third/fourth controller depending on the games.  *Here's to hoping for a new Mario Party game*

Wait, 40 hours rechargable battery life?
Is that actually legit?!

The WiiU pro controller has 80, so its probably true.

Yep. I have one and I seldom need to charge it. It really lasts that long.

The PS4 DS controllers battery life is atrocious! I was very, very dissapointed when I bought my PS4 and notice that the batteries don´t last more than 4 hours.

Yeah, I just keep my DS4 controller plugged in at all times.

And people are just setting a precedent for 70$ controllers that shouldn't cost more than 50$.
I mean this thing doesn't even look like a premium accessory, just a cheap regular one... 70 bucks...
