I really want to know how much better the Switch version actually is.

According to Digital Foundry's hands-on, it runs at a mostly rock solid 30fps at 900p when docked, and 720p when portable, compared to the Wii U version which, at E3 last year at least, was 720p with frequent drops to 20-25fps. They noted no other graphical differences.

Definitely, am expecting the Switch version to be better than the Wii U..

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Doubtful we'll get any fair comparisons until release. Marketing for the next 6 weeks will be all Switch, obviously/

In the Switch image Death Mountain looks both farther away and more detailed than in the Wii U image. The water reflects the sunlight. The placement of the sun shows they are taken at the same time of day. It's possible that much of what is going on is a change in the weather, but that wouldn't explain why Death Mountain looks farther away.

Why is there no HUD on the switch picture though

No prominent church on the Switch version either....

It's not the same rock Link is standing on. You can see the area he is standing in the Switch-image in the WiiU-image. Link is standing a lot behind in the WiiU one. So this isn't comparable.

It definitely has a better draw distance. It was very noticeable in the gameplay videos. Of course, if things besides the resolution are improved in the Switch version that would dampen the "Switch is hardly more powerful than the Wii U" narrative, so people don't believe it haha.

Switch is more powerful than Wii U, but not massively so. Even docked, Mario Kart 8 appears to have no upgrades besides a bump to 1080p. Breath of the Wild runs at 900p docked. Both are the same resolution as the Wii U versions when portable.

Later software built from the ground up and with greater developer experience with the hardware should widen the gap a little, but it's still not a huge upgrade graphically.

And honestly, I'm fine with that. If games like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker managed to look as beautiful as they do on Wii U, hardware that's mildly more powerful should produce some very nice looking titles.
