CarcharodonKraz said: i'm not displeased with the timing. 8 months early isn't the end of the world for a system that just wasn't up to snuff. What i am pretty displeased with is the software lineup. Xenoblade x taught me that i'm not a big fan of the combat system of those games. Mario is pretty damn far away, i can get zelda on the wii-u, and i can't think of another AAA single player game coming to the system. It's not like a ps4 where i've had the choice between last guardian, horizon 0 dawn, dishonored 2, watch dogs 2, mafia 3, and others all come out in a 6 month cycle. We're talking a full 8 months and i just don't see that game that screams "buy this system". Hoping for an e3 surprise. Zelda scope kid icarus game (doubtful considering how long it too zelda), new luigi's mansion (doubtful that an LM game would release that close to a mario game) or maybe, and the only likely surprise, pikmin 4. Pretty big pikmin fan. I also haven't seen any worth while M rated games. Don't get me wrong, the rating doesn't make the game, but something a little edgier would be nice. Castelvania, bayonetta, no more heroes... something along those lines. Might pick it up when dragon quest 11 releases, we'll see. |
We don't know how Xenoblade Chronicles 2's combat system will be. I hated X, but the original on the Wii is my favorite game on that console. So you disliking X doesn't mean you'll automatically dislike XC2. I think the Monado made the combat far more interesting in the first game, and it looks like the Monado is back in this game.
Breath of the Wild will be 900p on the Switch, it's portable (720p on a small screen makes it much sharper than 720p on a big TV screen), it supports the new HD rumble and has quicker loading times. I also noticed sharper shadows, less pop-in and a longer view distance. The Master Edition is also only available on the Switch if that's your kind of thing.
Arms will be Nintendo's new IP that launches in Spring. The game looks great and unique. Everyone who played it was surprised on how good it was. Don't judge a book by its cover, I'm sure they will have more stuff to announce for the game.
Then there's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in April. It has the following new features:
- 1080p and 60fps at all times when it's docked.
- Portable, so you can play it anywhere.
- It supports the HD rumble.
- It has new characters like the Inklings, King Boo and Bowser Jr.
- It has new items like the feather and a Boo.
- It has a new battle mode called bob-omb blast (from Double Dash). They said they will announce more modes later during the Treehouse livestream.
- There are actual battle maps now instead of battling on race tracks. There's at least 4 new battle maps so far, with more to be announced later.
- It has all the DLC included.
- They fixed a frame rate issue with the game (the "infamous" stutter).
Splatoon 2 in the Summer is the next big game on the Switch, so you shouldn't be waiting too long to play something new.
Sonic Mania on the Switch is also rumoured to have a retail version, if that's your kind of thing. And like always, the added portability is nice for a game like this.
Fire Emblem Warriors will release in the Fall, if you're into Musou games. I guess that's a bit more "mature" than Nintendo's other offerings.
Fast RMX will also release in March. It's a futuristic racing game with over 30 tracks and it's also in 1080p and 60fps. It has realistic graphics, if you're looking for some diversity.
Skyrim is coming to the Switch as well, but you've probably already played that game if you were interested in it. I guess the added portability can be a selling point.
It also has Project Octopath Traveler, from the Bravely Default developer. Looks like an interesting new RPG with a darker, more gritty look than most other Switch games. No word when it releases though, hopefully in 2017.
