"More competitive" in the US, where they won by a very large margin last gen... And they now fight dramatically to just reduce the monthly lead of the PS4, but keep losing there, while being stomped easily in the rest of the world.

Hum... Hurray?

Not hurray but what do they want them to do? Give up? Leave the console business?

I didn't say that at all. The OP just sounds too optimistic, talking about "competitive" and "holding extremely tough", when the situation is still pretty bad.

Not in US - this is an NPD thread. Otherwise it's basically a disaster except a few countries, yes. We already know that.

So Sony would basically be down YoY without the Pro. It didn't add much but it was enough to have a YoY growth.

Thats the thing though.... you don't know that.

There is a knock on effect of the pro that some peopl;e don't consider. Some who may want to buy the PS4 for the first time may decide to now wait again for the price of the pro to drop, some who buy the Pro and have a PS4 would most likely sell off their og PS4 which ultimately means one less person has to buy a console new since they got it used...etc.

Lastly, the "Pro" Is still just the PS4.

But more importantly, how many 3DS's were sold?

So Microsoft didnt win wordlwide in the USA December? :)) I mean, if you are only looking at a third of the entire global market MS is doing OK, but damn they are slaughtered on a global scale. The fact that Sony has tons of exclusives lined up for this year wont help them...

The differnce YoY was 100k for PS4, right? And we have 238k only in US only for December so that means no Europe and Japan numbers and not from launch. Yes, there is also some uncertain data but the difference in the YoY data is so small that it is highly probable that without the Pro, it would've been down YoY.

2014
2015
2016

What have they all got in common? PS4 outsold xb1 in it's strongest territory by a handsome margin each of these years. Bravo Sony. Fantastic treble victory!

Glad to see Xbox make a comeback. They should have released the S model a year ago. And kudos to MS for sticking with it. If you were Nintendo you would have already announced your next console and the next 2 years would have been pointless. This is what Nintendo should have done for Wii U.

Hopefully they get some real first party studios together. Once they do that they should primed to chase 360 numbers.

Ok, so we can confirm that the XB1s was down YOY globally.

Can we also say that without the XB1s it would have been abysmalluy low?

Point is that it doesn't really matter. We looking at data there is no point looking at the unknowns because... you know.... we don't know. Maybe if there was no PS4pro sony would have added a BR player into the PS4s. Maybe sony would have droppd the pric to $199. Or if there was no PSVR in the works sony would have dropped th price of the PS4 from as way back as march last year.

We just don't know. If you are gonna consider an "if" situation, then consider all the other "if" situations that could have happened instead.

More so for the people that have said the PS4 would have lost without the Pro or been down YOY.....whose to say that without the pro that Sony would no thave moved those resources elsewhere? For like better bundles and deals? I mean you can't just say without the Pro Sony would have lost or done worse because that means things would not be the exact same as now.

Same witht he XB1 as you said so that argument that is being used has wholes.
