ummmm im pretty sure PS controllers are the same way, 4 buttons in each direction.

Also, impossible to play a fighting game like Street Fighter? That must be why Street Fighter is coming to Switch, right?

100% not the case. It's a plus internally. When you push down one portion of the d-pad the other partions move with it. It's one large button with four contact points that appears separated as it comes through the shell.

I have to say potato is right. I have opened PS controllers and its one piece, that looks divided because of the shell. Switch "d-pad" is more like the C buttons on the N64 controller.

Forget just Street Fighter ... what about Mario and co. on the Virtual Console. I'm not playing NES or SNES or Game Boy or DS titles on the Switch using C-buttons for a d-pad.

No way. I don't care if it "kinda works".

I dont think the post-launch drop for Switch will be as bad as Wii U for a few reasons.

1. I believe the concept will be far more intriguing for the average consumer.

2. Assuming that no delays happen (i know, its a big if) Switch has a solid lineup of post-launch, 1st party content. Zelda in early March, followed by Mario Kart in late April, ARMS in Spring (May/June) & Splatoon in Summer (late June-August). So a new 1st party title every 1.5-2 months. Then the Fall/Holiday lineup of FE Warriors, 3D Mario, Xenoblade 2 (i have a feeling this one will be delayed) and probably 1-2 more unannounced titles will give it a pretty steady stream of Nintendo IP this year.

3. The third party content seems to be the type of games that the Nintendo audience is more receptive of. Small-medium sized indie, Japanese & kid/family titles have done pretty well on 3DS/Wii U and Switch seems to be getting pretty solid support from these types of games while Wii U initially had a strong focus on recieving ports of mainstream western titles.

So while I don't necessarily think Switch will initially light the world on fire, i think its post launch sales will be much higher than Wii U and 3DS for that matter.

The day Nintendo stops delaying games is the day Satan drives a snow plough to work. XD

As for third party, even Wii U and Vita had indie support, it's hardly a selling point.

Yep, hence why I said its a big if.

But its not any single one of these points that would make it sell well but a combination of all 3 points.

I dunno, at this point I just can't see many people beyond the Nintendo hardcore shelling out $300 for it.

Actually, that`s exactly how it works. Value is an opinion and if in some people`s opinion power = value then that`s perfectly fine, nothing at all `ridiculous` about that.

You value different things to other people? That`s fine, it doesn`t make those other people wrong though.

you clearly don't understand what I'm saying, people are saying the switch should not cost that because is not as powerful. They are talking about a chip because that's what they want, while the switch gives you other type of value that cost money to manufacture, like the joycons with all the fancy tech and the portability. If they think the switch should not have all the other stuff and should be a powerful handheld and that's it then that's a valid opinion.

As long as you don't give a crap about those features.  the Switch doesn't offer much value. On the other hand why on earth would you buy a Nintendo console if you like boring hardware. I love boring hardware like the PS4 (pro) or PC it's simple  and powerful. Nintendo obviously prefers complex and weak.

I expected it to be 199$-249$ like the rumors where saying... and that was bundled with a game.

at 299$ its more expensive than a PS4 slim, dispite being 1/4th the power, comes with no blu ray drive, no hard disk, doesnt have a ethernet port, doesnt come with a "real" controller (youd need to get a extra pro controller).

I just feel like the "value" propersition isnt as strong with it.

Its not so much that 299$ is a insane price, its just... the value of it.
For what it is, it should be cheaper.

If it was $200 with a game bundled in you would now be complaining how weak the graphics were.

Honestly I wouldnt. At that price Id have pre ordered a Switch.

at 199$ with a game bundled, and it had a ethernet port in the dock.... Id be a sale for nintendo.

At 299$ it just feels too expensive, because the competition is cheaper & offering more for said price.

The exclusives will get me to grab one, hopefully it gets a 50-100$ price cut within the first year.

What`s wrong with them wanting that though?

You say stuff like the joycons and portability add value, but while they may to you that doesn`t hold true for everyone. I`m personally hoping for a future joycon-less version simply because they and the portability adds no value whatsoever to me. I don`t particularly care about power either, but regardless the price is higher than I`d like and the reason for that is parts/features that I have no interest in.

it's not that what they want is bad, is that the switch offers other stuff. And just because the switch doesn't offer what they want that means the switch should cost less to manufacfture, cause there's other value on the system that costs money.

Yes but costs to make stuff isn't the same thing as value. Value is a personal subjective idea and if someone thinks the Switch is too expensive for what they get the Switch simply offers to few value for that person.

It doesn't help that no third party is really willing to hang their neck out on the line at all, even the Japanese ones .... I mean yeah Bomberman and Street Fighter are cool ... but jeeez I think the 3DS had higher budget launch games from Japanese developers.

Aside from the N64 and Virtual Boy, I think this is the worst 3rd party support a Nintendo system has had in its first 5-6 months.

Again like a company like Konami ... would it kill you to port MGSV in the launch window (using the 360 or PS3 base?). Like you probably could've sold a nice amount of copies, but no takers I guess.

Yeah I completely agree with this, everybody though this thing was gonna be 300 after the reveal, then the rumour cane and the expectation changed and now 300 feels like a major disappointment just because of that but is actually a fine price, maybe too expensive on Europe but nothing really extraordinary for a console. And yes, the laptop comparison is pretty on point, value is not only power.

I think it will be interesting see in the US and Europe how many people buy into the "play console-esque games on the road" concept. Not sure how many people really want to be playing high end games on the go outside of Japan, but we'll find out I guess.
