This. Wasn't interested in it then and not interested in it now, everything about it looks cheesy.

Why not. MS will recoup their losses on this project, PG will continue to have work and Sony has another exclusive, all solved amicably and to the best interest of every party. I doubt MS would sit on the work that has been done and refuse offers, they're never gonna bring it back themselves, after x years the work will be too outdated to be salvaged.
Of course we don't know what happened behind closed doors, it could be that the game never worked, but considering Kamiya never failed to deliver in his 20 years of game making and Microsoft's habit of cancelling games, I don't think the studio was at fault.

Is it possible that Microsoft has only the name "Scalebound"? Because they deleted it. Hope the best for the developers and the players.

If you want PG to succeed go buy Nier when it comes out. Pay launch prices. Hell preorder. But there is nothing you, PG or anyone not named MS can do to make Scalebound happen.

I wanna see the source of this statement. |
Just look at the Gamescom gameplay, the basic gameplay is there, which Platinum games can obviously do. But it seems like the problem was the 4 player co op and Microsoft just doing Microsoft shit. I mean just look at the Phantom Dust story, Microsoft asking the devs to do unreasonable shit, without giving them money? Wow, sounds very familiar. It's the same thing they did with Phantom Dust.
The multiplayer focus is obviously something Microsoft told them to do since, 99% of their games are multiplayer focused. And Kamiya saying "Is MIcrosoft fucking kidding me" just 1 month before the Gamescom reveal is pretty obvious too.

We don't *know* anything for sure. But all the reports we have are that the game was in development hell. Typically when a Sony game is in development hell it comes out looking like Lair, the Order or Driveclub. They are both businesses. I DO prefer Sony's approach of still eventually releasing failed experiments. But them buying Scalebound isn't suddenly going to make a game on a bad trajectory good. |
Lair was a launch game, most launch games need more time, but of course, they're launch games. The Order? Since when did the Order have development hell? It was like delayed 3-4 months. That game was "bad" because of creative decisions, not because Sony didn't fund them. Sony actually game them creative freedom, like they do most of their devs. And the reason Driveclub came out like shit was because Sony didn't do global beta testing, if they did, they would have seen how broken it was. And I'm 100% sure Sony has learned from that mistake. The only real developemnt hell game that was shit was Duke Nukem and that was because it went through multiple devs. If Microsoft game them time, I have no doubt in my mind it could have finished. Also, these games came out, they weren't cancelled.
And honestly, going by how sparse(ay) their new games lineup is, they should have kept funding, or at the very least, not done what Microsoft does, ruin the development by asking the devs to do ridiculous things.
Except, I do think that if a developer like Sony was involved and gave them creative freedom, they would have released the game. We're not talking about a developer who makes constantly shitty games or have no credit what so ever, this is Platinum Games. And don't say, what about TMNT, Korra, etc. Those were all games under Activison.

This was supposed to be MS's answer to The Order. Now they will have to hire somebody else to make them an overhyped 'AAA' game.

Game started development in 2013 and was set to launch late 2016. 3 years is enough. They didnt reach their milestones as devs and project was scrapped. |
Lmao, you're just proving our point. 3 years is not enough, you think that after 3 years most devs just stop and cancel a game? Horizon has been in development since 2010, it's still here. And it's not even that. I doubt you read that Kotaku article because there is no way you can defend Microsoft. They were giving a shitty amount of money, and obviously because they closed down.

Hmmm, I think if MS does own the IP they wouldn't sell it to Sony out of pride. Right now, Sony is currently is beating them in sales. It would kinda be like rubbing salt in the wound if they sold it to Sony. MS would be handing them one more exclusive to their collection. I'm not saying it'd never happen, but I'd see MS selling it to another studio cause at least it might have a better chance of being multiplat.
Maybe one day we'll find out what happened to the game and why it was cancelled. I still feel bad for Kamiya :(
MS owns it and sod the idea of taking what would be a multiplat game (since it would touch PC) and making it PS4 only.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
1. If Microsoft was willing to cancel something they'd already invested in, despite losing capital they'll never recover, does that really sound like a good project to pick up?
B. The game didn't look good the first time it was shown and even worse the last time it was shown.

MS wanted a AAA game with a 5 million dollar budget and cancelled the game before 2016. They cancelled it a year after it was announced and it was announced in 2014.
