The only thing I buy at stores in person these days is groceries, been that way for years. Software and hardware and accessories are all bought online.

Only the foolish would buy a TV online.

Why? If you know which model you want, buying it online has a lot of advantages.

In many countries you have better return policies when buying hardware online than in the shop, the TV is often cheaper and you get it delivered directly to you front door (the delivery costs are also often cheaper than if you assign a normal shop with that task.)

I pretty much stopped buying games from brick and mortar once Amazon Prime started their 20% off new games deal.

Only exception is when it's a limited edition item I want that sells out, then I'll buy from anywhere to get it.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Never tried Amazon actually... Do they always ship on time? I've experienced delays before with other sites and it worries me.

Nah, bought mine online, knew everything there was to know and got a free demo at a store earlier. Also had it delivered for free from the online store and paid 33% less for the TV.

You big fool you, I hope you enjoy having all that spare cash left over to spend on a HD console to go with your TV!

And yeah I have to admit I've used retail as a good reference for buying things online too, it's handy to visually see the item before buying it, but having a handful of annoying twerps jumping around greeting you with fake platitudes and asking you to make sure you say their name when at the til in our stores is just a reminder than their saleries are all added onto every purchase you make in those stores.

As for the "buying online costs jobs" No, it doesn't, it can shift local jobs into larger global companies for sure, but there is a person working at Amazon in place of the person working at the brick and mortar shop who as a lot of people know well and have stated here "aren't paid enough to care if you buy online" so they don't care about their position and as such them losing that job will happen as a result.

Haha, yeah, and they always seem to "have that one myself"!

I overheard one sales person in Harvey Normans here trying to tell someone that they would be able to get software online after buying a printer to allow a printer print in duplex mode, I had a gander at it, sure... you could print on both sides of the paper for sure, as long as you were fine with taking the printout and turning it over manually, physically no way the printer itself would ever be able to do it. Even had a look online at the time to see was there a duplexing unit which could be added to it, there was not.

As an employee for best buy over the years i fully understand why gamers don't want to shop at stores (especially ours). Sometimes we have special deal of the day prices and sales, but other than that, the stores are just terrible. uninformed people most times, new releases not stocked on the shelves, pre-order system is JACKED UP! If it wasn't for employee price and Best Buys Gamers Club 20% off, i'd be 100% digital and happy. if PSN and the Eshop had more sales on games other than indies, it would put an end to retail, but that will never happen.

The Last time I bought a game at a retail store was back in July. I was at Wal-Mart and they had some PS2 trilogies/collections for $5, I bought the Mortal Kombat collection with THE QUICKNESS, one copy for me and another I sold on eBay for $31. Should've bought more tbh.

Prior to that, my last time was during last year's Black Friday, Wal-Mart (I love that store) had Splatoon for $25. They didn't have it online anymore, I stopped by just for curiosity and found a sealed copy on top of a counter, as the ones on shelves were gone.

Online for the win though, Amazon, sometimes Wal-Mart and Target have nice prices plus free shipping or in store pick up, and eBay is the best option to buy new games from small videogames/electronic stores, and used games of course.

Because knowing what TV you want doesn't necessarily mean you know what it looks like, and not discussing it with someone who deals with their s sales on a daily basis can render you ignorant of problems.

An example of this is the 8 and 9 series of 2016 Samsungs: They get great reviews, but the Quantum Dot display has a tendency to suffer panel failure while trying to display 4K images. Considering the lack of 4K content, some people could go literally MONTHS without knowing they have a defective panel.

1. If it was a big name brand (Sony, Samsung, LG), I would make sure you purchased from an authorized retailer. If you bought it from a place like Joe's AV or Abe's of Maine, they aren't authorized and the manufacturer won't be honoring any kind of support or warranty on it.

2. Oh, so you used the store, then ran off and purchased it elsewhere? Honestly, that's some of the scummiest stuff I witness as an AV manager. When enough people think like you, guess what? You won't get to double check that TV in a store anymore. So thanks for using the store, and not giving it any credit.

I work at Fry's as a manager. We price match to Amazon, Best Buy, etc, and is literally our second biggest promotional endeavor (even my name tag says "we price match").

Whoa :o

I didnt know you worked at Frys!

That was my first job lol (I worked at the Electronic Components department).

Never worked in the Components department, but I started in Computers and moved over to AV last year. I do remember getting pissed that the components guys would always come over and steal our UPS sales.
