The difference in launches could be explained by a increase in digital sales. Each year the ratio of digital to physical seems to favor digital more and more.

You'd have to imagine with the growth of digital, it's approaching (or over) the 2 Million mark.

Pokemon was already incredibly popular in Japan regardless of Pokemon Go which is why we didn't see any growth compared to previous games. However, I think that most of the growth in sales for Sun/Moon will come from western markets where Pokemon was declining and now saw a revival with Pokemon Go.
Predictions for LT console sales:
PS4: 120M
XB1: 70M
WiiU: 14M
3DS: 60M
Vita: 13M
