The marathon is already on and PS4 is half of the way already ahead. If Xbox can't sprint it already lost.

Marathons don't last 4 years. They last 20.

At any rate, this is bogus if the Scorpio isn't powerful enough to withstand the test of time and we can't be sure if it will. At some point Sony will create a PS5 and need to take a breather. That's when the Scorpio can strike by not needing to upgrade itself and weathering next gen on its own.

Whether it can do that remains to be seen.

So you expect the PS5 not to be at least twice as powerful as Scorpio? And you also think that the gap is closing when the Scorpio is released?

What if I told you that the gap will be increasing like it did before its release. A powerful console is useless without content. I don't see how Sony would ever need a breather within the next 5 years. For that there would have to be competition.

The PS4 Pro will enjoy the early start then Scorpio will give it a run for it's money.

No sane person with a 4K TV would buy a PS4 now. Sony really screwed up.

You do realize you can play the games in 4k, along with streaming them? Like Youtube and Netflix? You are literally just missing out on physical 4Ks dvd?

Some people have spent a large sum of money on high-quality 4k TVs.

For all people talk about consoles being 'just for games,' thats often untrue.

In this age, a console will hold prime (and sometimes sole) place in the living room under your TV.

Sony's new premium offering will do nothing to bring out the best in high end 4k TVs available now, letalone even better TVs over the next few years. Indeed, Microsoft's current Slim will do more to present compelling content for these TVs.

Will this change the nature of the 'console war?' Doubt it. But it remains a very legitimate gripe, and given the apparent low costs involved in providing this key feature, a signficant oversight on Sony's part.

I could not find the artcile I read that did a point-point comparison of the 3 major 4K Blu-Ray players out there so I used a few form google that directed towards my point. The difference in picture quality may have been exaggerated a bit by me due to past experiences between Blu-Ray and DVD players when comparing the Console verisons to stand-alones. Even with that said though, the differences seen are based strictly on how good you display is.

Here is a link to a great site that has impartial reviews and grading on many different aspects of a display: http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality

Be wary of the User Ratings that come up on this site though, they are very colored to the users.

Edit: I am a huge fan of Samung TV's and their HD TV's are some of the best around but I am dissapointed with their recent 4K/UHD offerings.

Thats my TV and its amazing!

PS4Pro:

Disappointed in the specs, it's really not much of an upgrade imho.
On top of that, the limitations being put on developers makes the upgrade even less worth it imho.
The price is nice.
No UHD disc support is puzzling, but the weak specs are the real deal breaker for me. I own a PS4 but I am not a big Playstation guy, so Sony would have needed to wow me to get me to buy a new PS4, they didn't wow me.

Scorpio:

Specs look great, if we can get better more consistent frame rates than what we get currently on consoles and with better graphics then I'll be happy.
Waiting to see exactly what they will allow developers to do. I am a big MP guy, if I have a Scorpio and the dev wants to make my game 60fps, they should be able to do it regardless of what someone else might be using and playing with. This is how it's worked on PC for decades. Apparently Sony will force Pro versions to perform at parity with vanilla PS4. If true and MS goes the other route, it would give Scorpio a big advantage for me personally.

I also hope they include a bigger HDD. I literally laughed when Cerny mentioned a 1TB HDD as if it was some great gift they were bestowing upon gamers. The 500GB consoles are already way too small. Doubling that, while adding more data to the games, and giving us no UHD disc support which means we'd have to download movies.. I don't get it.

I have optimism with the Scorpio, probably just because we don't know much about it yet except that the specs blow Xbone away.

The XBOS feels like a Pro + a Slim + a 4K blu-ray drive for $300.

I don't see where the comparison is at all. MS won this on by a mile. It doesn't matter that Scorpio is out next year. XBOS is out now and essentially already does what the Pro does for $100 less. Scorpio will come out next year and do more. Pro isn't even remotely powerful enough to make a marketable difference over the XBOS, let alone the PS4/Slim.

If you have a 4K TV, HDR, and are looking for a new console this holiday, I don't see why anyone would pick a PS4 product over the XBOS. It's cheaper, smaller, plays games in "4K," uses HDR, plus it plays 4K Blu-Rays which neither SP products do.

Also, stop talking about PC like it's a factor in console affairs. When it comes to consoles, PC doesn't matter. There's no "if you want a premium console, you'll just get a PC." If you want a premium console, you'd have gotten a PS4 because PC is irrelevant to console gamers. Scorpio will appeal to a huge audience of people who want a powerful console but don't want the inconveniences of PC, and that's more than enough to sell it.

What are you talking about? The PS4 Pro is 3 times more powerfull than the Xbox One S the differnece will be huge in games like Call of Duty.

HDR will be avaible for all PS4s via update stop spreading missinformation

PS4 NEO (still hate the Pro name) is in line with expectations and reasonable for the price.
It definitely isn't "OMG must have this" for existing PS4 gamers (although PSVR may be different story),
but Sony has been clear that they aren't trying to replace PS4og/slim with the NEO, so this is exactly as we should expect.
Although given that, one would have think they could spare the <$5 (or merely effort, possibly) to allow UHD BD discs.

You have misunderstood Sony's dev guidelines.
What they have mandated is that devs continue to release versions that deliver more or less the same game for PS4 OG.
What that means is that performance, whether resolution/fx  or FPS (top end/ stability) will exactly be the differentiator.
In fact devs are offering multiple settings for NEO versions, allowing higher res OR maxFX@1080p OR maxFPS@1080p. (still nicer FX/higher res than OG)
That said, NEO's +30% CPU boost is not enough to make a 30fps game a 60fps game, unless it was not CPU limited at all.
If the OG is running ~45 unlocked though, it is within the realm of possibility to achieve 60 fps, or at least much closer to it.
Given the reality of diminishing returns, Scorpion:PS4Pro is looking similar to PS4:XBO, although with more differentiation in CPU (in Scorpio's favor).
I guess performance-wise, Scorpion should be preffered platform in x-platforms, although where your friends game is more important re: MP.

Well, i don't have a 4K tv, and i won't be getting a new tv until my 3D smart tv dies. 4K doesn't matter at all to me, right now.

This is all common sense yet people still pretend that X1 is in some kind of equal race with PS4.

Why would they not be equal race?

Neither interest me because I don't plan on adopting 4k any time soon. 4k streaming content just isn't there and the only 4k movies worth owning are The Revanent, Creed, Sicario and Mad Max and a few others that are upcoming. Just not enough.

In 2017. if multiplats continue to be superior on the PS4, I will pick up a vanilla PS4. If the scorpio turns out to be good and improve graphics across the board (regardless of 4K) then I will pick up one when the price is right.

On the actual hardware itself, PS4P seems like a complete misfire in terms of specs and features. The marketing gurus at Sony will be hard at work spinning this one. Its ugly as sin too.

The Scorpio is a complete misfire too. Yes, the specs seem good, but do the mass consumers really want a 4K disc drive and if the cost is more than $500, its going to be a complete flop.
