Forums - Nintendo - Pachter: If the NX flops, Nintendo will still have 9.5 Billion dollars in the bank (They have 10 last time Pachter checked)

7 billions lost in 6 years? That doesnt sound right.

Based on their financials, their current assets (or what Pachter is calling cash in the bank) was at US$17.1B back in 2010 actually. I guess the strong yen hit them hard as well.

Why are you converting in the era, it is not like any one does that unless they are investor in that era they invested in. It was 1,591 Billion Yen and now they have 1,021 Billion Yen.

Also care to showcase comparison in current liabilities difference between 2010 and now, because if you are talking about how liquid a company is, you need to factor that.

(This is also response to your post, because this pretty sure he mean Cash and Cash Instruments and not Current Assets, never seen anyone refer to Current Asset as Cash in the Bank.)

With all that money in the bank, they should give a refund to everyone who bought a Wii U.

Nice to know that Pachter has access to Nintendo's books!

I doubt NX flops. Nintendo combining any and all efforts to just one platform instead of two should improve software output for them.

I dont think anyone is expecting that but generally around new hardware announcements from Nintendo, we have "it will flop" threads. Usually Nintendo will go bankrupt threads follow those and etc but now we at least know that Nintendo will do just fine... Even if the worse comes to worst

Let's not forget those "nintendo should go third party" threads, always get those at the end of the others .

I don't think they will flop as hard and they still have enough money to pursue other projects if they wanted as well as the handheld and mobile divisions.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Is anyone expecting the nx to flat out bomb, like Wii u level or worse? There were tons of factors that caused the wii u to end up the way it and I feel like Nintendo isn't dumb enough to repeat all of them again. Even if they go and only fix one major problem (the marketing, launch line up, release schedule ect) that would basically guarantee better sales than the Wii u

Never underestimate how out of touch some of these old business suits are in these companies

They are spreading their money out in many different endeavors (probably the most they've ever done). They have new hardware, new games, started a movie studio to make Nintendo movies, merchandising even more than they were, partnerships with other companies, such as universal studios, smartphone stuff, etc, etc. I highly doubt they'll sell themselves to anyone, they seem like a very internal orientated company that doesn't like being told what they should do.

Meh, maybe not. Considering Sony is another Japanese company, and has a much larger appeal/audience in Japan+WW, I would suspect Nintendo would choose to go with them if they were aiming for just one. Of course, I think they would probably just go multiplat if they were going to release on a home console.

Sony would have no chance. Microsoft is way bigger and would offer way more money, Sony doesn't have that kind of cash.

Asking price on Nintendo would probably start in the $40 billion range, largest thing Sony has ever bought was I think Columbia Pictures for $3.4 billion back in the 80s when they had a lot more money.

Even for Microsoft, Nintendo's price point would be steep. Their largest purchase is Skype at $8.5 billion.

Are you sure?

This. So, it's about US$1.8B less than in 2012. For comparison Sony has US$37.8B.

Stay. Away. From. The. Sony. Comparisons.

Thanks.

People tend to talk about these things on VGChartz. Is my malice detector malfunctioning? I never get into it with a mod, but this comment seems fairly benign. Withdrawing, regardless of your response.

I don't get all the hate this guy gets. I've followed pach attack and Pachter factor for a few years, and it sounds like he knows what he's talking about. His predictions might not be spot on every time, but he knows the business.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
