Forums - Gaming Discussion - No Man's Sky Metacritic - Critic 72, User 5.0

It is funny how it started like a crazy indie game and now is the most important thing ever

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

why does everyone here hate metacritic? i mean if a load off critics give a game a 6 its props not that good. If a load off critics give a game 10 its probably good. If no mans sky has a low critic score its probably because its average. Look at Zelda games all of them score highly and all are masterpeices. Same with gta.

People hate metacritic because it caters to the crowd that looks at scores rather than read reviews, which is exaserbated here due to how different critics use the numbers (many treat a 7/10 as average, others a 5/10). Also, considering how suspect many bigger review outlets can be (either fluffing up scores to maintain ad revenue or staying within the bounds of a narrative established by the parent media company), it's hard taking metacritic seriously at all. I'm curious how many people here are playing the game as opposed to just talking about it based on other peoples' discussions. I myself won't be home to play it until Monday.

So far I've

- Named 4 systems Llanbobl

- Completed the alternative story path that sends you away from the center
- Explored 44 planets
- Warped to 66 system's
- Walked 125,007 steps
- Met 48 advanced aliens lifeforms
- Learned 218 aliens words
- Made 15m credits, 9,808,023m is the most I've made in one session from trading.
-Destroyed 82 ships being a scum bag space pirate
- Destroyed 19 of those damn sentinels
- Survived 20 Sols on an extreme planet, I'll leave this planet once I've hit 32 Sols
- Got the platinum trophy
- Put about 60+hrs in the last 4 days

Still plenty to discover.

I've played far more than most of these "critics" I've certainly actually played the game unlike most of the haters in here. Does it deserve lower than a 70 on meta? No, the OST alone deserves higher. 75 - 78 is where this game should be.

My score is 7.5/10, got everything I wanted from the game. I would give it higher but it's crashed more times than any game I've ever played combined ever XS

Awesome, I'm only in my 5th system, second playthrough though.
Walked 38k steps, met 12 aliens, learned 75 words, destroyed 42 sentinals, no ships yet. So much more to do.

But how do you follow that alternative story line? It seemed to start but then the game sent me after Atlas.

      You really hate sentinals.

Yeah  Atlus is the alterantive path, keep all the stones you find!

I don't understand where the dislike comes from. They promised an absolutely massive game (so massive you may never meet anyone) where you can explore planets, discover shit, and name it whatever you like. The combat and whatnot was always going to be limited, since your interaction with others would also be limited.

They did exactly what they said they were going to do and I don't recall them saying they would do anything else. The only thing I'd like them to do is maybe lay out a star map to where people on your friendlist are at.

You cant meet others. That was a lie (that's already a huge negative). The game also has horrid performance on PC, which is inexcusable.

Now, onto gameplay. I havent played it, probably wont, but it's easy to tell. You get onto a planet, blow up rocks, gather resources, discover creatures, rinse and repeat. There are probably some layers of depth with the weapon you use and the ship, maybe also with the resources, but it's irrelevant. The game is the same from the first hour onward.

I mean, there's not much wrong with that; the fun is in traversing through the seemless and "infinite" universe with endless possibilities in each "unique" planet, until you reach the center of the universe. The adventure is in the journey, not the destination. But this journey will get become boring a few hours in. So not many people will fine joy in it, except those that like travelling and discovering new species and planets, or sci-fi books/movies with... randomized content.

They might have delivered a few of their promises, but that doesnt make it a good game. We could also blame the gamers that thought they would somehow deliver a universe filled with great content in 18 quintillion planets, because that's just impossible, but they're just gamers.

      1. Oh, PC performance is bad? Tell me then how that makes the game bad? Because that sounds like technical issues, not mechanical issues.

      2. Stopped reading pretty quick after that, since you're willing to critique a game you have not played and have no intention of playing it.

It seems like you've already formulated am opinion on it without playing it, and that's just shitty. What's worse is you're spreading your uninformed opinion to others, too.

I really feel like I might have to shelve this game untill it receives a few updates and more content. I love the concept and i love exploring In games. But this just feels so lacking at the moment. Cant believe they charged as much as they did for this game, it's the most expensive launch price I've seen a game here in Australia in a long time.

They hate me, luck of the draw with agressive planets. I had to fight off a few squads of them to get the anti matter blue print. Luckily you can simply flee into your ship for a quick shield recharge. On another planet I though I would be save in the caves, yet they kept chasing me down. I couldn't keep my hands off all that juicy plutonium so close together.

Reading the user reviews, alot of the negative reviews seem to come from "haters", as inlogical "negatives" are given.

There's also tons of positive reviews that don't offer very much insight.
