I don't understand where the dislike comes from. They promised an absolutely massive game (so massive you may never meet anyone) where you can explore planets, discover shit, and name it whatever you like. The combat and whatnot was always going to be limited, since your interaction with others would also be limited.

They did exactly what they said they were going to do and I don't recall them saying they would do anything else. The only thing I'd like them to do is maybe lay out a star map to where people on your friendlist are at.

Metacritic is a stupid resource to use. It compiles marketing gamesite scores and user scores from people who may or may not have ever played the said game. You only need to see ads of a reviewed game on the sites or read the rampant fanboys in comment sections to know how ridiculous Metacritic is.

People really need to stop caring about this site.

Ouch 69 Meta... Sub 70's is what it'll be at probably.

You cant meet others. That was a lie (that's already a huge negative). The game also has horrid performance on PC, which is inexcusable.

Now, onto gameplay. I havent played it, probably wont, but it's easy to tell. You get onto a planet, blow up rocks, gather resources, discover creatures, rinse and repeat. There are probably some layers of depth with the weapon you use and the ship, maybe also with the resources, but it's irrelevant. The game is the same from the first hour onward.

I mean, there's not much wrong with that; the fun is in traversing through the seemless and "infinite" universe with endless possibilities in each "unique" planet, until you reach the center of the universe. The adventure is in the journey, not the destination. But this journey will get become boring a few hours in. So not many people will fine joy in it, except those that like travelling and discovering new species and planets, or sci-fi books/movies with... randomized content.

They might have delivered a few of their promises, but that doesnt make it a good game. We could also blame the gamers that thought they would somehow deliver a universe filled with great content in 18 quintillion planets, because that's just impossible, but they're just gamers.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

PC port it's very bad. TotalBiscuit says Arkham Knight level, a lot of people are already refunding.

That's unfortunate. I was going to NMS discussion thread, probably wouldn't be as positvie as I originally thought.

There is a long list on GAF people have compiled about all the stuff said to be in the game at various points during development, that did not make it in. The biggest of course being the ability to meet and see other people.

Here are the things I've noticed that were talked about before release but haven't been seen:

  • Most planets will not have life (90/10 rule)
  • The idea of "more evolved lifeforms"
  • The difficulty increases as you go towards the center of the galaxy
  • The day/night cycle is "not artificial"
  • It is possible to fly past the "edge" of the galaxy
  • It is possible to fly between solar systems manually
  • Temperature of a planet is based on distance from the sun
  • The type of star will affect planet generation
  • There are ship classes that are suited to different tasks
  • Ships can have stealth
  • Within each system there is a single big event that could change the system for everyone
  • Things get "weirder" as you approach the center of the galaxy
  • Planets generally only have one type of resource, encouraging exploration
  • Atmosphere color of planets is based on elements in the atmosphere
  • Planets with rings around them
  • Planets covered entirely by water or sand

Others say there are a lot more they can add to the list. To be honest, as someone who was interested in the game but not bonkers about it like others (which is fine, it's never WRONG to be pumped for a game) I didn't really follow most of the pre-release interviews, but I do remember multiple times talks about meeting other players, and being able to manually fly from one solar system to another.

In reality, at least thus far, there is no MP at all, and each solar system is like an enclosed space you can't escape without warping. So it's like any other online game. Someone apparently tried to fly for 6 hours straight to get to another solar system and it just glitched his game out.

I'm just hoping this drops the price of the game quickly and they work on some fixes. All these issues people are having, the fact that it's in the high 60's is a testament to the potential that is there.

That's worse than Infinite Space (75). I've looked that up earlier today because it has a similar premise, albeit it's an RPG rather than a survival game. Space travel with battles, lots of micromanagement for your spaceships and crew. It's not a procedurally generated world, but a handcrafted one. It pretty much looks all the same though.

The game sucked so hard. Metascore is 50 points too high.

Nah, Infinite Space had a nice anime look. The DS trully excelled at pumping those stylised visuals.

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

The more I play it, the more I like some things and the more boring the game play gets. Flying over a new planet is awesome, finding the exact same structures on every planet is not.

I'm looking for a new ship again. The one I have now has some lovely support struts always in view narrowing the fov even further, doh. For now it's still fun to find out more about the 3 species and the cookie crumb trail the game lays out. Yet damn those space pirates, you might as well hit reload until you upgrade your ship (and sacrifice cargo space). And some planets have some very angry animals, jet pack back to the ship. Taking on 5 sentinels no problem, one angry critter, run!

It's all good again when you take off and fly into the sunset over an alien landscape. The exploration itch is well catered to, there's just not much of the unexpected to find.

why does everyone here hate metacritic? i mean if a load off critics give a game a 6 its props not that good. If a load off critics give a game 10 its probably good. If no mans sky has a low critic score its probably because its average. Look at Zelda games all of them score highly and all are masterpeices. Same with gta.

It's more like that:

Metacritic score is good for a game

Fan A: "told you the game is amazing just look at metacritc to see for yourself^^"

Metacritic score is bad for a game

Fan A: "please don't bring metacritic into the discussion this sites nothing, but a compilation of biased reviewer that are all shit and who don't understand this game and games in general :/"
