Forums - Nintendo Discussion - In Your Eyes: Has Nintendo Given Up On Home Consoles?

Yes. My phone isn't a desktop computer just because I can mirror the screen onto my television.

However I don't care too much about. It's not like it matters right? It's just... the way it is.

No, I don't see it that way and it would be way too early to judge that right now anyway.

And even if I did buy an NX in the future, I wouldn't buy any multiplatform games for it anyway because once again Nintendo will be cheaping out on the hardware. I already have a PS4, which will have much better specs than a console releasing years after it apparently. It's not my problem if Nintendo doesn't give a shit about third party support. What a joke.

I don't understand what your point is. Are you trying to say I contradicted myself? If so explain please.

I said that it would be too early to judge if they're giving up on home consoles right now because it all depends on how the NX will even end up doing or where they go with it. Right now I don't see it as that way, but maybe if the NX is a runaway success Nintendo might consider just doing this instead of outright making a seperate console and handheld from now on.

And the guy who made the thread said let's consider that the NX rumors are more or less true, so yes they would be cheaping out on hardware if those rumors are true and they're using a god damn Tegra X1.

Definitely too early to say something like that..

If they don't follow up with pure home console in 2019/20 that is in the same ballpark as PS5/NextBox then I'd say they've mostly given up on mainstream home console gamers, not necessarily home consoles per se.

Well you did seem to take it a bit too seriously. Even saying what a joke Nintendo is when its not even confirmed yet.

It certainly looks that way.

But saying that, maybe there will be a big Nintendo home console comeback in the future. You know how trends come and go.

They're going for both mobile and home in one console it seems. I think this is a great idea for nintendo. With virtually nonexistent third party support, they really only have enough games for one console. Especially considering how their decision on which platform a particular game goes to almost seems arbitrary at this point, and some being on both (wiiu and 3ds). If they make a relatively cheap hybrid console, they could capture a pretty decent market because people with either the xbox one or ps4 can't get the games nintendo has to offer.

To be honest yeah, I could see how it would look like i'm taking it seriously. I don't mean for it to come out that way though, lol. Also I didn't say that Nintendo was a joke, I said that releasing a console years after the PS4 has launched that has much less power than it is a joke if these rumors end up being true.

But true, these are just rumors and nothing is confirmed yet I know that. It just annoys me thinking about if it is possibly true that they're using a Tegra X1 because it then shows me that they have learned nothing from the Wii U and are making the same mistake of releasing severely outdated hardware yet again, especially when the Scorpio and Neo are on the rise. People have always been saying that Nintendo didn't care about third party support for a while now even though they at least made efforts with consoles like the Wii U but with the NX I feel like they just truly won't care at all this time since all their software output for first parties will be on one device so they feel like they can go without it or something.

The NX is part home console though. So would they have given up on the home console market? No.

Nintendo is not putting all their eggs in one basket, no matter how uberly awesome a theoretical hybrid can be.

Lets not forget where NX evolved from, which was the unified library solution that we were clued in by Nintendo's own statements.  And again going by their own words, the form factors may actually grow, and lastly Reggie stated NX is a PLATFORM ("always") not a singular device.

The NX tablet may launch first, with the oc'd X1 used in dev kits (guessing was licensed to simulate performance, vendor may not be NVidia in the end ie 3DS)..  But its easy to predict, Nintendo will now have the flexibility to have multiple HW solutions, to suit various gamers lifestyle/tastes thanks to the unified library.  Makes 0 sense to  unify library, only to have 1 NX hybrid device, think about that...

Nintendo will have a NX home console, guaranteed.  This is a multi billion $ company and they want to have as much presence in the market as possible, again putting their eggs in one basket is a pretty much a non starter.

-Tablet form factor

 -Phone/mini or trad. handheld

-Home console

 & maybe more to follow

btw I do agree with the notion of a flooded console market, but must point out, that will not preclude Nintendo from serving their fanbase and potential customers' interest.  The unified library solution will give Nintendo the most flexibility in HW its ever had in their vg history.
