wasn't that the name of the new corporation that came to life when they merged EAD and SPD? I'll change that in EAD until I find out <.<

I thought it was EPD? It's so hard to keep track of all these acronyms.
Lego City 2 (with a new/other town)
Golden Sun (like the first one, with epic battle animations)
Baten Kaitos 3 (battle system like the 1st one)
GTA VI
Elder Scrolls VI
Witcher 4
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (of course)
Mario Galaxy 3 (or similarly great Mario)
Secret of Mana remake (one of my all-time favs)
Those games in the first 2 years and I'd be set.

I really wish Nintendo would retire Amiibo. I can deal with game "droughts" and unambitious projects, but I have a hard time reconciling myself with Amiibo, which are basically physical DLC. I know it's a cash cow for Nintendo, but it seems to me a cynical business practice. For your other point, it's well taken. Nintendo needs to diversify its portfolio in terms of genre. It's got platformers and action-adventure games on lockdown, but it could use more RPGs. Monolith Soft is one of the best - if not THE best - in the industry, but it can only turn out so many games. Nintendo has a homegrown RTS, so that base is probably covered. I know shooters aren't exactly in Nintendo's wheelhouse, but it proved it could make a great and popular shooter with Splatoon. So why not explore that genre a little more? Since Free Radical went downhill, Nintendo hasn't had a premiere first-person shooter. And maybe it's time to subsidize a sim racer. When was the last time Nintendo had something to rival Gran Turismo? 1999? |
Nintendo will back away from Amiibo when it stops making money, which, judging from Amazon, is no time soon. It's just going to be a fact of life. If it's an add-on situation, it probably won't be that big of a deal, even for those who find it annoying. If Nintendo switches their business model to "what games can we make that will sell Amiibo" then it's going to get worse. Hopefully they will not allow their Amiibo business to interfere with the integrity of game design. And Amiibo-first mindset is short term thinking.
Monolith is certainly a good start, though I'd argue that they need something with quicker production to go along with them. Some Atlus type games would be perfect and they would probably work just fine on handheld.
I honestly don't see why they couldn't pursue more Bayonetta situations. They could go to someone like Sega or Capcom and say, "what projects do you have that we could partially fund?" Imagine if they went to Konami and funded Suikoden. I would have have no choice but to join the Nintendo faction and hang out with you people.

I need Metroid (Holiday 2018), Xenoblade Chronicles X2 (Summer 2017), and 3D Mario (Holiday 2017).
I think there's a lot of good indie games on PC they should pay to make exclusive to NX on consoles, like System Shock 3. Then they should get the other good indie PC games there are already coming to consoles, like Yooka-Laylee and Turok remaster. Then, get other good indie PC games there were already released on consoles, like Rocket League. I don't know, they have cash, just make a lot of deals with smaller developers and promote those games on NX, it doesn't have to be 100% kid focused, there's a lot of good ideas being made by indie developers, just pay them all to make NX games and bundle that with traditional Nintendo franchises, like Zelda, Fire Emblem, Eternal Darkness, 3D Mario and Smash Bros. Yeah, they also need to remaster the hell of out Wii and Wii U games, make those "ultimate editions" everyone love with all DLCs and collections. They need to release everything they can at a fast pace. A lot of people don't have Wii Us, so there's a market for old Wii U games.
March 2017 launch:

I see what you did there :^)

Focusing on just Nintendo-developed/published games:
Basically, I feel the launch should focus on Zelda and a major casual game that uses Miis. Miitomo is a thing that should be tied into the NX experience, and I think the first major casual game on the platform should emphasize this.
I feel that a few months of software drought after launch isn't the worst thing possible. After all, we can't scare away too many third parties, and those next-gen games take time to make. This is why updated releases of old games with improved visuals are useful. It was useful for the 3DS using Ocarina of Time, and would work well here provided the post-launch gap is shorter.
I suspect Pikmin 4 is fairly close to release, based on prior comments from Nintendo, and that the next 3D Mario will come sooner rather than later, based on Miyamoto's recent comments. Maybe it will be in Q4 instead, but it could be shown in early 2017 and released during the summer. This will overlap with the release period for Mario Kart 9, the first big online game for the NX, and whatever Retro is working on. This way, we have Mario Kart, 3D Mario, and Zelda in less than a year.
2018 can start with more minor titles. The upcoming Mario Party for 3DS is likely an experiment for MP11, and three years is enough of a wait for that to be made. Camelot would also have time to make a proper Mario Sports game, and a Zelda spinoff can be made using Breath of the Wild's assets, a la Link's Crossbow Training. The main star of Q1/Q2 2018 would be Super Mario Maker 2, which will likely replace the "New" series for the near future on consoles.
The second half of 2018 will feature some larger games, including a second Splatoon, the obligatory 2D platformer, Luigi's Mansion 3, and maybe a third party collaboration. With this, the only big missing series in terms of sales AND acclaim would be Super Smash Bros, which I feel should wait until 2019 or so to distance itself from the current iterations.
Also, in my dream world, the NX is getting games like Mass Effect Andromeda, Injustice 2, Dragon Quest 11, Kingdom Hearts 3, and so on.
