Forums - Sales - EU SALES UP!---360 Price DROP--Fails or NOT??

You can't really call it a failure yet, you have to see how much of a lasting impact this price cut will have, if the sales settle down at around 50k/week then its a failure if its slightly more then that then i say its doing its job of closing up the gap with the PS3.

08' Year End Predictions

Wii: 46 Million
Xbox 360:
26 Million

PS3: 22 Million

Gears Of War 2 - 7 Million

@griffin

actually its just anecdotal evidence..

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Man people would rather buy a pricey PS3 than a cheap 360.....failure total failure well at least 360 still has NA for now Wii is coming up.

I can see why some people are disapointed with the price cut because it didnt out sell the ps3 and you guys expected more but let me just point out the flip side to this. First of lets remember when the price cut hit NA with sony the ps3 still didnt outsell the 360 but it did increase sales and eventually got more people buying them. Second we all knew from the start that others would be really hard for ms to get a foothold in. Throughout the "darker times" of the ps3 sales you guys always pointed to others as ps3 strong point. My point is if ms can keep close to sony in others and maybe keep its lead over ps3 in places like uk, aus and the few others then MS will see this as a big step forward(remember the origanal xbox). Playstation is still the name that springs to mind when thinking videogames I think many people lost site of this with the ps3 slow start. Anyway theres my thought:)

a little optimistic don't you think..

Wii sales went up this week, and judging by the patterns they should go down slightly in OTHERS, also PS3 sales should increase therefore I do not think 115k is optimistic.

In the overall scheme of things Microsoft has benefited more then Playstation this gen if you look at it from sales, support, exclusives. But in the short term i don't think 360 will ever be selling more then ps3 in others on a constant basis.

Microsoft is hiring people to help with a new push for the 360 in Europe.

I remember last year, what a difference a year makes =D

GT5 P will show people what AAA titles can do to the PS3, I think its the first true AAA exclusive to release on the PS3, I expect as much as 140k for next week in OTHERS, and as low as 80k

Though anything is possible so I'll probably predict something like this:

PS3: 115k
Wii: 95k
Xb36:60k

Question 1: What on earth is the Xb36? Did you by any chance mean the Xbox 360?

Other than that good post!

My guess is:

Wii: 130,000

PS3: 95,000

360: 58,500

The 360 is one PS3 price drop away from death in Europe. None of this is even shocking, I could have told you this would happen last year. NA won't be getting much better either, and actually I'll bet anyone that even though ioi has the 360 outselling the PS3, the PS3 will have more sales in America come NPD.(March)

There's nothing that anyone, other than internet nerds, really cares about on the 360. It's not the in thing anymore, and the further prices are dropped the more pricing won't matter anymore. If the PS3 hits $299 this year, regardless of whatever release, the 360 will never pass it for any month ever again. This time next year the 360 will be on the edge of death WW.

That bolded statement is something I will never agree with you. Im in high school, the 360 is the in gaming console for americans, the ps3 to them is a worthless waste of money. It saddens me to know this as well, though it may seem offensive to some the PS3 is considered the 360 wannabe console in North america.

As long as theres an Xbox the playstation will never gain control in north america over nintendo or even microsoft.

See to me the 360 was never that popular. It was losing WW before July to the PS3, and it was losing after the holiday Halo effect ended. When your only selling points are being "better" at playing the same games and "being cheaper" theres not much hope for you.

The 360 only looks good when people compare it to the PS3. Sales, games, features, all of those things aren't really that good. It just cant keep up, and once its momentum drops and the PS3 gains, it will be the Xbox all over again. Head to head, the 360 is just outmatched. Even if the crappy port trend continues, The PS3's first party games will be the best in every category, RPG(FF) Racing(GT5) Action/Shooter(MGS4) TPS(Socom). It would fitting capture FPS, but that depends entirely on whether or not Gears 2 can beat RFOM2, and that Killzone 2 completely flops.

You might have your preference, and love your 360(no you leo-j, owners in general), but any new buyer who only had a PS2 is not going to buy a 360 on Gears 2 alone. No when all the above mentioned games will be solid on the PS3, with the PS3 costing $50 more with Blu-Ray,reliability, free online, and features like Home and the playstation store to sweeten the deal. Its more attractive, and the way things are shaping up now the 360 will be outsold 3-1 or greater in NA, almost non-existent in Europe, and completely dead in Japan this time next year.

Well, which is it?  Either the 360 compares favorably to the PS3 or it doesn't.

As for the price drop effect, this generation will not be won by this week's sales alone.  The only thing that matters is the long term effect of the drop and if the 360 can maintain elevated sales then the drop will be considered a success.  If NA gets a comparable price drop soon then the PS3 will be an afterthought right up until the release of MGS 4.  Even then the 360 would still sell due to the price point.

Considering the sales trends of past MGS games, and the install base of the PS2 relative to the PS3 I don't think MGS 4 will be nearly as monumental as the SDF would have us all believe.

seeing as anyone who was on the fence would have picked up a 360 after the drop yeah I would say it was a failure overall.  but a small success in that it partially closed the gap
