OP also referred to that part of yours as "gimmicks and other add-ons" or something like that. He's trying to establish similarities in order to create some discussion.

Thanks for the help :)

I think I'm going to modify the title, but I don't know how to call the totality of all these add-ons, special controllers and other devices and little tweaks that fundamentally affect the way a game is played. I'll think of something.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm not sure, I really like some gimmicks and I really dislike other gimmicks. But I like that companies try to do something good. Also, I'm not sure about the definition of "gimmick". I think it's a matter of popularity. I mean, WiiMote was bashed for part of the gamer community as an useless gimmick, VR is now cool as hell, and it seems now that Move is cool because you wear a helmet.

Even with the recent VR tech, where the Vive and the Occulus seem like the more powerful and capable devices, it's the PS VR set the one selling out in stores before even being out on the market.

The Vive and the Oculus is also selling out in stores before being in market too.

In fact Oculus Preorders are backed up 4 months.

Didn't know that. I guess we'll have to wait to the release of all of them to see which one ultimately sells better. But I'm still under the impression PS4 owners are more akin to getting a VR headset than PC gamers.

Yeah, PC gamers only buy things if they are good, console gamers on the other hand buy anything you throw at them.

The user was warned for this post - VXIII.

This is a tricky question because I feel that 1. PC Gamers generally tend to be more "early adopter" and willing to try the new thing, gimmick/innovation/whatever but 2. Consoles generally tend to create products that require more "early adopter" mentality.

Thread : no, console gamers are not more attacked to gimmicks. Once people realised Move or Kinect will not get AAA games, they drop it immediately. U cant blame people for company's lies/misleading marketing.

That's why I am not burned with VR. Rememebr guyz, More or Kinect also get a plenty of games ... launch window.

I'm a console gamer before a PC one. But the only "gimmick" in the way the OP described them, would be motion controls, that I liked (at first). Anything else, I ignored. I see things as: "Is this really new. Or just another way to do something I can already do." Examples: 4K resolutions and future higher ones, 3D, Gamepad, & VR. Does this add anything new? Will this annoy me?" Are usually what determines me to go for a gimmick, or not. Besides the price. So, no. I'm not more opened to them compared to a PC only person.

Console gamers are a broader demographic so generally speaking, yes. The reality though is that gimmicks are easier to pull off on consoles because hardware developers (sony/Nintendo/Microsoft) create in house experiences for their gimmick which help push. They also market and bundle their gimmick alongside their general brand. Its much harder to do this on PC and most periphieral makers do not have reputable in-house developers.

Facebook could market oculus rift with 90% of PCs sold (from Dell, HP etc) and it'd a complete waste as most PC owners are not actual gamers. Almost all console owners are gamers or at least someone slightly interested in gaming, so when microsoft makes kinect a focus of their marketing it has real impact.

Thinking logically, consoles don't have as much flexibility, so any gimmick is good for consoles to push sales if the audience is console only.

Steam buying habits prove this to be false.

As far as add-ons, I do believe console gamers are more likely to try the new thing to see if it's worth doing. But I think that comes with much wider demographics than the hardcore PC crowd.
