There is a HDMI modification available soon for the N64 which cleans up the image quite a bit but I think you can only purchase it complete with a N64 from certain vendors(no self-install). Would love to get one one day.
Visually and technically Rare games were unmatched.
Perfect Dark had by far the best visuals. Its lighting, texture work 480p resolution put it ahead of anything else in that gen.
Also after that id say Rogue Squadron. Its easy to forget the original was an N64 title. It also had some great real time lighting from the laser fire.
Perfect Dark first. Then Rogue Squadron. The PlayStation couldn't get anywhere near these games in that gen technically.

Yeah, Rare had a lot more space to work with on Conker. They didn't for example have to stretch textures as much as Mario 64 or other early games on the system did. I have to admit, I never realized the weight difference on the cartridges. |
That's okay it's not like anyone is nuts enough to get out some N64 carts, a weighing scale and a camera.... oh wait I'm here.
Mario64 Cart a 8mb Rom

Conkers Bad Fur Day 64mb Rom

Pokemon Stadium 2 64mb Rom

One odd one which doesn't line up with the ROM size (16MB) and is possibly down more to the cart having additional hardware inside it for use with the 64DD addon which was going to work with FZeroX to save created tracks.

But yeah I know that the Weight difference between the lighter carts and the heavier ones is just 30grams but that does make Pokemon Stadium 2 1.3X the weight of Mario64

Toss up between Perfect Dark & Conker. Banjo Tooie comes in a close 2nd, and Paper Mario has the best art style of the gen.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

If you do rebuy the game do be careful.
I missed playing this game and honestly don't know what happened to my copy so I rebought it on ebay a few years ago, but it turns out to be the bad copy of the game. When the game launched it had bugs in the game where you weren't allowed to save your character creation and other things so THQ had to send new fixed copies of the game to those that got the bugged versions. I originally had the bugged version and THQ sent me a fixed version which is now lost, and then the recent ebay purchase ended up being the bugged version as well.
So do be careful if you plan on rebuying it. What a great time we live in where devs can fix buggy games easily now with an updated patch where back then it was horrendous.

I agree, its probably the best looking game on the N64.

It's amazing how much of a difference the N64 Expansion Pak makes.
