Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why Sony Won't Deploy PS4 Exclusives on PC

Simple because PS Exclusives are usually excellent games and it is a huge incentive to buy a console to play them all. They release a ton of exclusives for the PSX, PS2, PS3, PS4 & most are rated M & even the ones that are rated E are amazing too!

I feel when PS2 and PSP were simultaneously successful, that was the strongest Playstation had ever been. In that period, people were excited about everything Sony was doing.

Nowadays... not the case.

That only depends on your viewpoint. They're not as strong here in the States, nor Japan, but in EU, their biggest market, they're stronger than ever. Hence why that's arguable.

Besides, the fall of the handheld has much less to do with their brand and FAR more to do with climate change.

My view point is simply having the all time greatest selling console ever and a mega popular handheld console at the same time was bigger than PS4 alone. During that period there was more hype surrounding all of Sony's tech.

Again, Vita was part of the brand and it got left in the dust. Any way you slice it was a failure for Playstation. Its a cool gaming device released at the wrong time, Sony couldn't find an audience for it.

I'd argue that PS3 was also a"failure", in some regards. What came of it? A record selling sequel.

What moron thinks the PS3 was a failure? lmao smh A console that had a PC in the console with a browser, Apps, blu-ray player, PS Home, PS+ & a ton of awesome games. Also the models from 2006-2010 had the Other OS option for Linux (YDL or Ubuntu) which was an amazing feature!

The PS3 ended up surpassing the 360 in worldwide sales around 2011 or so after coming out a full year after & costing twice the price for a while $600. That was a major accomplishment & win for Sony. Now compared to the PS2 it was a failure, but then so is every console in history lol. That said, the PS4 is killin' it & retook the UK & USA from Microsoft which had a 60%-40% lead on Sony in those territories during the reign of the 360 vs PS3. That said, PS3 still ended up catching & passing the 360 last generation. So Sony owns the console market & seems it always will. PSX-PS4 1995-2016 & beyond....

PS3 was a failure in the sense it gave much of the market to Xbox and lost billions of dollars. Sony couldn't afford another PS3 situation.

However, the billions of dollars lost helped them maintain a strong market share. PS3's large audience on top of X1's mistakes helped PS4 be a success.

The 7th gen was also so long and people were ready to buy a new consoles. Especially since PS4 launched at a reasonable price. Sony wouldn't have the same record sales at 599 US Dollars.

I guess I'm that moron.

You aren't taking into consideration how much money Sony lost to simply get a userbase at par with 360.

That is misleading. Sony only lost money on the PS3 for a while. It ended up turning a profit for them halfway through the generation. They knew they were going to lose money on it for a while, but that is how they roll.(they knew the prices of the hardware used in the PS3 would come down which would bring down the price of the console & lead to a profit eventually) They are all about Quality & revelutionary jumps in the console evolution. They did end up selling around 90 Million PS3's worldwide & they still sell 15k or so a week. Also PS3 owners usually only had to buy 1 PS3 as they did not have near as many problems as the 360 which many owners had to buy 2 or more to replace their broken console.

Sony's billions in lost revenue came from other ventures than their gaming division. The walkman went down the toilet due to the iPod, Samsung & LG could compete with their quality in HDTV, Apple & Samsung cornered the smartphone markets, they pulled the plug on their PC division due to all the competition of quality laptops etc. Regardless Sony is still a respected Forbes top 100 company in the world. If you buy anything Sony from a HDTV to a car stereo to a PS4 you know you are buying Quality.

They planned on losing money, but lost significantly more than anticipated. PS3 had a 50% price cut in about 3 years to catch up with the 360. PS4 has only gone down $50 in two years ($100 only for holiday boost).

At some point PS3's stopped selling at a loss. But they didn't recover all the losses. Which is why Sony said they couldn't afford another PS3.

I think Microsoft just has more to gain from it than Sony, at the moment. They have the most used OS (though I doubt many people are going to go out and buy Windows just to play these games), and by publishing these games for PC, they still get a piece of the profits. The amount of money they stand to gain by publishing on PC probably outweigh the incentive of purchasing an XB1 that is lost by having the game not be XB1 exclusive, because they probably realise that they won't end up anywhere near PS4's numbers in the end, and probably not the target they had initially aimed for either. So this seems like they're investing in their long term strategy for the Xbox brand as a digital service.

Automatic updates have been gone, you cannot disable them entirely, but you can postpone them indefinetly.

I've been looking around, but I cannot find any info on this. Besides hacks/tricks, the only option I see is to delay them for a set amount of time, based on a schedule you select. Not postpone them indefinitely. So a restart can still happen at an inconvenient time. There are things you cannot simply "save" quickly in the form you want, but instead requires a lot of time to finish. That is how I lost important data before that I'll never be able to get back.

If there really is a way to postpone them indefinitely (until you chopse to shut down the PC) do you have a link to this? Or what exactly is this feature called?

~Edit~
I read now that update version 1511 lets you delay them for 8 months. But it's only for Windows 10 Enterprise, Education and Pro. Not the Home version, which would be the one I would get.

I have Windows 10 Edu, which is the best version strangely

Once again that is somewhat misleading. Sony did not drop the price just to catch up & pass 360 which they did end up doing, they dropped the price because they knew as the years ticked by the hardware used to build the PS3 dropped like a rock as all tech does. That allowed them to drop the price & they anticipated this.
