Nothing like the real thing. I never emulate, it's just not the same. Also, I don't care about resolution when playing SNES games or anything. Nor do I care about saving all the time, why should I?

Some games have tough sections or poorly placed saves.  With emulation, you can stop and save exactly when and where you want. It's really convenient!

But that's a key part of the anti-renting challenge!

Virtual Console. I mean, it's basically legal emulation and the games work at least 99% the same as the original consoles. Plus, you can remap the buttons and use save states, which are really useful features.

Yeah, I'd say VC is good as well. Not like the original, but at least you can use your controller to play them, and not a keyboard.

Original.

It's just better. Better control, you're playing it how it's meant to be played and it just works better, more streamlined. Also, playing the original means you can't cheat.

I prefer original hardware or at least VC titles on newer systems.  I downloaded an emulator once a long time ago and I'll never do it again.  Plus, the original carts are worth money and go up in value.  The same can't be said about emulators.  I view collecting video games almost like collecting sports cards with the added benefit that you can play them.

Perhaps you should add my point about collecting value of original carts to the op...

It depends on each game individually, I know good examples when a game is crap on original hardware and awesome on emu and vice versa.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Original hardware hooked up to SDTV. I have a good CRT that has a flat display with s-video, composite, and component inputs, and great color. The only two games I have ever gotten on VC instead of original are Earthbound (because it was free) and Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels (because it was never released in 8-bit form in the US).

Emulators are great just to be able to try out pretty much any game from the 5th gen prior with little effort, especially games that never got wide releases or were Japan-only because many of them have translation patches or ROM hacks. But for the most part I prefer to play on the original hardware mainly because of the controllers. I find that playing NES SNES and especially N64 games with their original controllers is much better than using an Xbox or PS or other controller options with your PC.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Emulation - save states, not needing multiple systems hooked up, ability to modify the visuals to make it different from the original, play region locked games without having to worry about being region locked.

Edit: Also dont have to worry about running out of copies especially if you have the option to buy games on DD storefronts like Steam, PSN, eshop, VC.

Not to mention stability; when I play games on emulator, they play not only better, but with less crashes and problems as well. It really is astonishing how easy emulating has become from only 5-6 years back.

Wherever the hell I can play them.

Seems like with time one of them becomes the most likely option, aside from remasters and stuff.
