thats an odd game to compare them too, as its not like Rayman did gangbusters on Wii U anyway. It was still outsold by the PS3 AND PS4 version. Sure we could use the excuse that PS3 has a bigger user base(not what people were saying when they swore teh Wii U one would sell the best since thats the "definitive" version but i digress). But whats PS4 excuse? it came out later.

Edit: on another note, 3rd parties approach to Nintendo was never the problem. Nintendo's approach to 3rd parties is the issue, the onus is on Ninty to get those games on the system if they so choose. 3rd parties are not obligated to jump through hoops to support one platform especially when it has already been proven that they could do much better on 3 other platforms

What exactly is your point here in context to the post you replied to? Of all 7 platforms Wii U was 3rd best selling so?

As for third parties no amount of help from Nintendo would convince the userbase to buy games from developers who don't want to try.

i just dont think Rayman is a good example to use, i mean if thats the BEST a 3rd party game can do, then its not wonder why it doesnt get more support.

If Ninty actually tries, then 3rd party will make a game that there user base will want to buy cause at the very least they will see that Ninty is actually giving a damn about it. How can you say it wont work if they've never actually tried?

Did you even read the post you quoted in fact no point asking because you didn't, Rayman a games that sold mildly was used as an example of games like COD and AC won't ever sell, for some reason you read only those lines and came up with a reply to an argument that doesn't even exist go back and read the post properly.

The whole point is the's no point Nintendo trying for certain third parties because as long as they don't try themselves the userbase will never bother much with them, when the userbase itself recognizes that third parties are releasing titles with missing modes, no dlc and so on at full price over other versions it's common sense that no amount of pushing from Nintendo will make a difference, third parties themselves have chip in. You're effectively asking Nintendo to tell their fans just buy third party games regardless of how they turn out.

This is why they're not trying with third parties because like yourself they think one party should do everything for them, a shared library between portable and homeconsole would be much more beneficial and return results. Collaborations like the one with PG and NLG would be better then trying to pander to developers who don't want to try.

I got an easy answer for that one. It won't have hype cause first of all, its very unlikely that Nintendo will make such a system in that time frame. And it's also unlikely anyone will make a huge investment on it. They will port some old stuff and test the waters. We all know how well that works on Nintendo systems.

Tbh, Nintendo should stick to portables, if their plan to suceed is anywhere near this knee jerk reaction fans wish for in the internet. The home console NX, to happen under these conditions would likely be as sucessful as the Wii U.

To win back market share Nintendo has to plan it in a much better way and has to launch at the same time as its competitors. Mid generation systems never work.

Only hope is to get a gimmick that appeals to the casuals like the Wii. At least Nintendo themselves make rivers of money with it.

Fair enough.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see who's right! :)

Why does it need to outsell all other versions? Why does everything have to be number 1? The game sold more than the Xbox/Vita versions and basically tied with the PS3 version while not being all that far behind the PS4 version. It shows that a game like Rayman can be a success on Nintendo platforms because it appeals to the people who play Nintendo games like Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, Donkey Kong. U want to have successful games on a platform than release games that appeal to the fan base of said platform.

Doesn't this just further the idea that Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo games, or Nintendo-like games, and thus third parties shouldn't bother with it unless they're going to make a game that "appeals to the fan base"?

Which gives you the same situation the Wii U and 3DS are in now.

Why do people think the next platform is going to get more support than either of those platforms?

Depends if Nintendo has the gall to incentivize 3rd party's to come over to the NX. It is not just hardware and potential market otherwise PS3 would not have gotten so many exclusives over the 360 and vice versa. It is 3rd party relationships with the hardware manufacturer.

Sorta but the same goes for PS/XB. Those consoles in the west are primarily bought for online shooters, open world action, sports/racing sims, fighting games which leads to the vast majority of retail releases coming from those genres.

On the other hand, genres like platformers, party/local multiplayer, puzzle, life simulators, turn-based RPGs are more fitted for the Nintendo audience so it makes more sense to release games in these genres on such devices if u want a game to succeed.

It all comes down to demographics and genres that fit in with the userbase, if u want a game to be successful on a platform than release a game that appeals to the primary audience of said platform.

Third parties bankrupted themselves in order to support the HD twins over the cheap-to-develop-for Wii.

I rest my case.

some third parties are better than others tough. I think Nintendo need to have some successful consoles in a row, and international first party studios before the industry will begin to treat them more fairly.

What were third parties supposed to do? Not support the PS3 and 360 and hope gamers would be satisfied with SD graphics forever? They were going to have to switch to higher end HD gamers sooner or later. Even Nintendo themselves also had issues trying to sell "epic" traditional style games on the Wii like Metroid Prime 3 had unimpressive sales relative to its userbase, things like Sin & Punishment and Xenoblade were not big sellers either.

They should have built an audience on both platforms. They should have released their core franchises on the Wii. Not direct ports but their own versions. Yes, that would have meant less recources and less games on the HD twins, but considering how many companies ruined themselves, that would not be a negative. If there was a niche missing in the Wii library, they should have filled it with a solid game.

I can name you lots of core games that did fantastic on Wii. RE4 did awesome. Mario galaxy did awesome. De Blob did well. House of the dead and house of the dead overkill did well. These games were profitable. Usually if a game had effort put into it, it did well on Wii. Well enough to warrant making.

Imagine what GTA ports from ps2 would have sold on wii. Same for final fantasy VII to X-2.

As long as Nintendo make some of the best games with the highest quality wich lead so imense sales, 3rd parties won't put much of a effort .

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Like snes? And quality aside, the majority of software sales from ps and xbox coming from cod and fifa isn't stopping other third parties from making games, is it?
