I love many of the listed games but I have to go with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, great atmosphere, great music, great level design. The difficulty curve is near perfect, and it provide that sweet spot between challenge and frustration that I love.

I'd say New Super Mario Bros. U or Super Mario Maker myself. Super Mario 3d World and Rayman would follow.

Minority my ass. I'm sure that a strong, strong majority of people who played NSMBU found enjoyment and fun in it. I know I did. It just still gets criticized because it lacks soul, or originality, which the other 2D platformers on the poll nail.
