Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Only 3 of Nintendo's Wii U games wouldn't fit on a Wii disc

Xenoblade Chronicles X, (22GB) Smash Bros 4, (15.7GB) and Tropical Freeze (11GB) are the only Nintendo-developed games on Wii U so far that would not have fit on a dual layered Wii disc.

Games like Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, 3D World, Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U, Captain Toad, etc would each fit comfortably on a DVD-sized disc like the ones used by the Wii.

In fact, Wii games like Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Other M are larger than most first party Wii U games.

Depends on how you define "Nintendo-developed". If you mean Nintendo internal studios, then yes, except you missed SiNG Party (co-developed by Nintendo SPD). If you're including games where Nintendo had oversight, you should add Bayonetta 1 and 2, The Wonderful 101, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Olympics, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, Devil's Third, and Lego City Undercover.

Nintendo continues to be the industry leader in high quality games which don't waste space on your hard drive needlessly.

Also the leader of making games so big that they won't fit on their own console's storage.

Double win!

Are they really the leader here? I'm sure, the 12 GB version of the PS3 (9 GB available) or the Xbox 360 Core and Arcade have problems with the mandatory installs (plus mandatory updates/patches) of some Sony/Microsoft games... GT5 or Forza 4 for example.

We all know what is "wasting" space on discs.

Videos
Language tracks
textures

None of them are really extensively used by Nintendo. (which can be both bad and good)

These small file sizes will be needed for the NX. If it will be cross platform for both handheld and stationary hardware a small file size is making things a lot easier (and cheaper). But it will leave many third partiy games out.

I expect Zelda to be 10GB+. So in the end we will probably have 4 Nintendo Games for the Wii that don't fit on a Wii disc.

However, Nintendo is like a god in keeping their games' sizes as small as possible.

Sorry, mate, fusion platform is not happening.

It's an amazing level of compression, but then again, they need to fit the games in a 8-32 gb memory if downloaded.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It's obviously a great thing that all those Nintendo games are so small.

Could you please lose that attitude assuming you know more than all others? You have no more information about the NX platform than the rest of us, so please stop "correcting" people that draw other conclusions of the rumours than you.

What was the english word for "Besserwisser"? Smartypants?
