Forums - Nintendo - Why do people think the next Zelda will be on NX?

I fully agree with the OP here. One big factor i think for them not porting them, is dissapointing the Wii U fanbase, even though it could be money, doesnt mean they are gonna do it. If nintendo was only about money we would see them doing crazy stuff like EA is doing.

I don't really get that. The game is practically guaranteed to be on Wii U. The issue is whether it will be on the NX as well. If it's on both then why would that disappoint the Wii U fanbase in any way? They still get the game regardless of whether they want to upgrade to an NX or not.

because it would probl be inferior on wii u. You get a system because nintendo advertise it with a new big zelda game coming (tech demo as an example) and then you get a gimped down 720p30fps version and all people that just skipped the wii u get the superior product.

Its similar to the new smartphone releases. When the iPhone 6 get released, its "the shit". But one year later, everybody want to iPhone 6s and nobody really cares alot about the inferior iphone 6.

Many people always want the best. And not getting the best version on the console the game was announced for at launch would make many people mad.

So, basically you are saying that Nintendo staff is full of incompetent programmers. We've seen dozens of remasters lately so why would Zelda U be any harder to port to other console? Answer is that porting game is much easier than you think. We've seen a lot of PS2 remasters on PS3 lately and PS2 and PS3 are completely different. Probably even more different than Wii U and NX will be.

And you could make game for both consoles at the same time. Even Nintendo can easily develop game for several consoles at the same time and release it simultaneously. Heck, any big developer can do that so why not Nintendo. Nintendo might even make Zelda U and Zelda NX at the same time and that wouldn't even be a problem.

And how can know that they haven't started making Zelda for NX already (either a port or completely new game)? I'm sure they have started making games for NX already. Game development for next generation console has always started 1-2 years before console has launched. If they wouldn't start developing that early, then there would be no games for first year at all.

I'd like to believe that Zelda U will launch a few months before the NX's release. I think they are already working on the port. By the time the NX gets released, they'll launch (or at least launch window release) with a slightly enhanced port for NX. If not, they'll work on a Zelda U remaster to get released a year later.

I think I would rather have the NX launch in November of 2016 so they can remake Twilight Princess in HD like with WW in time for the game's 10th anniversary.

Nintendo is much smaller as you think i guess.

The average nintendo EAD studios only have like 30-60 employers.

Like i already said, their biggest game yet was skyward sword, were 100 people worked on.

Zelda title in general are really big titles, in terms of "effort to make" similar to other AAA productions. On the Game witcher 3 as an example 300 people worked 4 years on. And they released on 3 consoles, whcih all use very similar hardware.

On games like Assassins creed 600-1000 people are working on (yeah annual releases though). But still.

Some facts:

Nintendo employers: 5000

Ubisoft employers: 9200

EA employers: 9300

Keep also in mind, ea and ubisoft are only software (game) developer, while nintendo need people for hardware, Operatin Systems, and games.

That's kind of a glass half full approach don't you think? The game may well live up to what it was always planned to be. Just because the NX version may be 'superior' doesn't mean the Wii U version would be worse than if the NX version didn't exist.

yeah your probl right, but my point is not that this is a fact, but i think many people would think that and will feel mad about it.

Many hardcore zelda fans (which probl already own a wii u) dont want to play their favourite game series in the inferior way.

Also:

A NX Port would sure need alot ressources. This ressources could be used on the wii u version to make it even better (more dungeons, bigger world, more sidequests) OR would make a sooner release possible. So if nintendo took ressources to make a NX version, the wii u version will suffer from that.

Facts in OP:

Twilight Princess only Zelda to release on 2 consoles
Gamecube had Windwaker before that
Gamecube and Wii were similar hardware wise
All Zelda games have been delayed before
Nintendo said the game will be on Wii U.

Everything else is opinion. There's stuff there to suggest it will be on Wii U, but absolutely nothing to suggest that it won't be on NX as well.

Porting a big game (like Zelda) from Wii U (PowerPC) to anything else (X86, ARM, etc.) is a though job.

This is a fact, especially for Nintendo as they need more studios.

Nintendos studios are pretty small.

Fact

The Wii U installed HW base is small, BUT most wii u owners are loyal Nintendo fans.

Again, fact. With the Wii U, it has been proven that the attach rate of Nintendo games is much higher on the Wii U than any other system. (Take MK8 VS Mk Wii. 50%+ attatch rate VS only about 30% attach rate.

You forgot a few.

The first one I'd contest. Wasn't it Ubisoft who said it only took 3 months or something to port to Wii U? If porting from x86 to power pc can be done that fast I don't see why doing it the other way round would be any different. Additionally it's very unlikely they would have bothered releasing Zombi U on PS/Xbox if it was that hard of a job to port.

Nintendo EAD is actually one of the biggest studios in the world. Sure they are usually split up in to separate teams and working on separate projects, but I see no reason why they couldn't shift some staff to help out if needed.

The last one is hard to argue as a fact. Facts are quantifiable, they can be measured and proved. How exactly would you quantify loyalty? High attach rates? Not directly, no. That could be due to a variety of other factors as well, maybe the game was just good/popular, maybe it was bundled, maybe it was cheap maybe there's other factors. Regardless, it doesn't prove without any room for doubt that Wii U owners are more loyal Nintendo fans than those on any previous system or the 3DS.

For Ubisoft, which is a huge company.

Nintendo EAD is huge, but they are always focused on other things. They are always making games, even though they might just be the sequel to the next game or etc. They could shift some staff, but it would slow down production on their other games. Therefore, you could say Nintendo EAD is small due to them all being spread out. The TEAMS themselves are small, and they all work on different projects.

The last one is true though for every Nintendo game.. sure those other factors are put in, but in the end they don't make as much of a difference than you'd think.

It's not just true for Mario Kart, it is also true for Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Country TF, NSMBU, Smash Bros Wii U(with a 3DS version as well, and it is still outperforming the others when talking about attach rate)

All this evidence shows to prove that.

Because Nintendo knows that the new Zelda is not worth on Wii U.
Don't forget that every company wants to make as much money as they can.

I just think it is inevitable. It seems zelda is too big for wii u because of its small install base, releasing it on two systems will ensure better sales and a return on that huge investment.

Ubisoft and many other companies said alot wrong things about the wii u in the beginning. If porting would be that easy, we would get alot more multiplattform games on wii u. Even with 300-400k sales, 3month of work would pay out.

If porting to wii u would be so easy, why do you think Watchdogs was released 5 month AFTER all other releases on wii u? If it just took 3 month to make the whole port? No way. They start working on the wii u port long time before the official release on other system, but still needed 5 month longer.

Like I also said, Tantalus is porting a game scince 1,5 years and it didnt even got revealed yet.

Also. Wii U Multiplat ports are always ported from the xbox 360 version (which uses PowerPC too).

Games like ZombiU (which got ported from Wii U to Ps4/xbox one/pc) wasnt planned as a exclusive wii u game. It wasnt done with wii u development tools and co. It was probl. made on pc (should be on pc/xbox360/ps3 first) and just ported to wii u in the last 1 year of development. Thats why it wasnt a big thing for ubisoft to bring this game to other plattforms. Nintendo is developing games exclusives for wii u, they dont use any common engines that already run good on x86 cpus.

Also Zelda Wii U will be a BIG game. It will need alot more effort to port as games like ZombiU or Hyrule warrios (which also need 1 year to port from wii u to 3ds, and its a pretty small game compared to Zelda).

Games Like Project cars got cancelled for wii u, because the porting is to tough,

Why should it sell better?

Little calculation:

10 mio  people are interested/want to buy the new zelda.

5 Mio of those people already got a wii u, so they can just buy the game on wii u.

5 Mio people left. These people dont have a Wii U OR an NX. So if they want to play Zelda, they have to buy a Nintendo console to do so.

Its unrelevant for Nintendo if those people buy a wii u or NX. They will earn money for both.

So 2,5 mio of those 5 mio people are "okay" with getting a new console for the new zelda.

makes 7,5 mio sales on NX (2,5 mio) and Wii U (5 mio)

or 7,5 mio sales on wii u only (7,5 mio) + cheaper development (no Port cost) + at least one more compeltly new launch title for NX (the game the "porting team worked on instead the new zelda)

If they want to reach a big number of people they would have to release it on ps4.
