Why should it sell better?
Little calculation:
10 mio people are interested/want to buy the new zelda.
5 Mio of those people already got a wii u, so they can just buy the game on wii u.
5 Mio people left. These people dont have a Wii U OR an NX. So if they want to play Zelda, they have to buy a Nintendo console to do so.
Its unrelevant for Nintendo if those people buy a wii u or NX. They will earn money for both.
So 2,5 mio of those 5 mio people are "okay" with getting a new console for the new zelda.
makes 7,5 mio sales on NX (2,5 mio) and Wii U (5 mio)
or 7,5 mio sales on wii u only (7,5 mio) + cheaper development (no Port cost) + at least one more compeltly new launch title for NX (the game the "porting team worked on instead the new zelda)
If they want to reach a big number of people they would have to release it on ps4.
