Forums - Nintendo - Which Are the First Five Games a Person Should buy with/after Wii U Purchase?

So I have been planning a purchase of a Wii U with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X. My problem is that there is a huge backlog of games that I want. So I've been trying to prioritize which games I should buy with the console (I am planning to get five with the console + a bundled game - XBC:X.) This made me think of a thread idea. Assuming money isn't an issue and that the prices likely won't drop anytime soon (which is likely with Nintendo games) what are the first five Wii U games you'd recommend someone get with a purchase or after their purchase?

I am thinking these are the five games (six if we include XCX bundled) I will probably get:

Xenoblade Chronicles X (bundled with console)

1. Windwaker HD

2. Super Mario 3D World

3. Splatoon

4. Bayonetta 2

5. Pikmin 3

(Other games I want, but I'll wait to get after I finish these: Super Smash Bros U, Mario Kart 8, DKC: TF, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Wooly World, The Wonderful 101, Fatal Frame V and MH3: Ultimate. This doesn't include games that will probably release after I get a Wii U - like LoZ:U, Revelations#FE, and Star Fox.)

Can't go wrong with those 5 (or 6) games. SSBU and MK8 are also classics that most people own, and for a good reason. DKC:TF is probably my favourite Wii U game, personally I think that game is brilliantly designed, Retro Studios did a great job.

Also, make sure to check out Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. I found this game to be a surprising twist on the classic Mario formula, turning a platformer into a puzzle/strategy/adventure game. Definitely worth checking out, and I don't think it's that expensive either.

The lack of the Wonderful 101 in most of these lists is really dissapointing.

Is Bayonetta 2 that good?  Because I thought Bayonetta one was just in the "ok" category. I'm surprised to see people putting it ahead of games like Smash Bros.

Bayonetta 2 is much better than the first one, dat sprinkle of Nintendo magic make it one the best games this gen.

Mario Kart 8 is a fantastic game, and Wind Waker HD is really nice too, especially if you skipped GameCube and didn't play it the first time around.

Bayonetta is a game that looks like it would appeal mostly to 11-13 year olds just finding out about sex.

Splatoon and Pikmin look a little bleh, not sure what the hype is about them. I would love Pikmin if it weren't a level based game. Splatoon allowed you to play for a short time, and honestly, that's all I needed before I found it repetitive.

I skipped Super Mario 3D World as well, I already played the original version on 3DS. I am waiting for a real 3D Mario game like Super Mario Galaxy 3.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It's not very good and very repetitive imo. Then again, I just can't see the fun in remembering button combinations. I was just mashing buttons in Bayonetta 2 and still won most of the time.

Smash, 3D World, MK8, Splatoon, and DK64 on the Wii U eshop. Or, if you can't handle the dong expansion, Bayo/Pikmin (depending on which niche you fit more into).

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Do you like any other hack n' slash or beat em' up game?

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Splatoon
Mario Kart 8
Hyrule Warriors
Super Smash Bros WiiU
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Pikmin 3

That are 5, I'm sure

I've played a bit of GoW at my friend's house and watched an entire let's play of the trilogy. That probably has more to do with me being fascinated by Greek/Roman history/mythology though.

Depends on their tastes. If they are like me then..

Lego City Undercover

ZombiU

Super Mario 3D World

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze

Sonic Lost World
