The first: "Yes, i expect it to sell this well".

I'm glad this has done so well and hope it continues to be improved with each hardware iteration. Such a fun game.

Luke, are you serious? Did you really mention Xenoblade as the only guaranteed big seller from here on out? And instead of criticizing Iwata for the job he has been doing, how about you focus on your own job? You know, the one that I assigned to you. I am not noticing any improvements. |
Yes, it's the only guarenteed big seller by the end of this year, as I said other games need to be advertised in a similar way to Splatoon :
-Devil's Third doesn't seem to get any advertisment and saddly it'll most likely flop;
-As said previously Mario Maker needs an advertisment push and it seems like Nintendo is giving it so as I said it could do really well;
-Star Fox as far as I've been told has never sold really well, plus it's difficult that Nintendo manages to make an advertisement push also on Star Fox it beeing so near to MM;
- Yoshi WW doesn't count since it's already out here in Europe :v .
For my English I ordered my homeworks book almost a month ago but the Amazon staff told me that due to delays it's beeing shipped around the 3rd of September °-°'''

Yeah, Europe. In Japan and NA where majority of sales are at are priced normal, and to top it off people still expected it to not even do a million lifetime so.....?

Well let´s be honest to ourselves it had not much competition on WII U now did it, if the game released on PS4 (and wasn't made by Nintendo) it would probably get trampled by Bloodborne, Witcher 3 and Pcars. Still it´s good to see a new Nintendo IP doing well.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Last I checked not every $40 game sells 1m in 3 weeks.
Furthermore, it's only $40 in Europe, which is by far its weakest market.

Then why did other games on the Wii U flop? That's not how it works.
Well...did anyone seriously expect this success?
On paper it looks like it's doomed to fail. A new IP on a struggling console with a very unusual premise, has all the hallmarks of being a niche classic and little more. For it to do so well...amazing.

No advertising people hardly know other games on WII U excist if they are not familiar Nintendo games
