Forums - Gaming - Re-opening a discussion: "The Wii U is a better secondary console than the X1/PS4"

Count me in as a nay sayer.  Much of this is preference, I understand, but having a PS4 or X1 the gamer has more options with third party and the the exclusives that come with the console.  For example, I just downloaded Alien Isolation for the PS4 instead of the PC.  Why?  Becuase I wanted the cool contoller effects.  On top of this there are a series of PS4 exlusives that are currently released and will be in the future (Bloodborne, Uncharted Series, even 1886).  The WiiU exclusives don't cut it anymore.  The biggest mistake Nintendo made was not having the Zelda game ready to go at launch as it did for the original Wii.  Bottom line is the WiiU was a poorly planned system especially after the success of the Wii.

Nah, I still think the Wii u is the premiere secondary. I have all three and have most of their exclusives, The Xbox one and PS4 are interchangeable offering almost identical experiences, so I could drop one and not miss out much. On the other hand dropping the Wii U means I'll be missing out some truly unique experiences. Just my opinion though.

", The Xbox one and PS4 are interchangeable offering almost identical experiences"

by this logic when we take the wii u games considered to be "best"... smash bros, mario kart, 2d mario (i've played these 3 ), donkey kong etc

is the wii u not interchangeable with the wii?

from my perspective it is, when i played these games there was no significant difference to the previous entries that came before them imo

oh and on topic no and i personally believe that the reaction we got at E3 a few days a ago might be indicative of the wii u library not being as impressive as it is usually protrayed

if there were so many games to play why are people starting to freak out?

Because they're overreacting

By your logic there's no point in upgrade to any current gen console

OP: Yes

PC + Wii U = Best thing that ever happened to mankind !

pretty much this. PC exclusives combined with Wii U exclusives and you got the best combined library in gaming today.

Clearly you are construing the topic. It is about this gen, and what the Xbox One, Ps4 and Wii U offer.

his point is that the xbox and ps offer almost identical experience, i'm just saying that goes for the wii u and its predecessor as well

when i played smash for example to me there was no notable change in my opinion with the exception of the new characters

Look at my sig.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Definitely not the Xbox One, that's losing exclusives more then it gains.

I've been a PS/XBOX guy since last gen so yes, I believe both are better secondary consoles than the Wii U. Neither console is really my primary but each console has several must have games for me. Wii U doesn't really have must have games for me. It's library heavily skews towards platformers and eastern games(which aren't my style). While I like the occasional platformer, it's not my favorite genre and I can live without Mario. So while Wii U's exclusives may contrast more with XBOX and PS4, I'm just not interested in those types of games.

The other thing which isn't about exclusives is network effect. For the occasional online co-op game, I have friends split between both consoles. Having both allows me to play specific games (exclusive or multiplayer) on whatever console my friends are playing on. For example, my sports gaming friends play on PS4 while my FPS friends play on XBOX. That adds value to each console as a secondary console. That's something Wii U doesn't have.

Well, I have a PC, a Wii U and a 3DS and I think I don't miss many good games with that combo. At least for the moment. I think I will pick a Vita too.

The OP is correct. WiiU fits the role of 2nd place better than the other two consoles.
