I don't think FFXV is going to be the game the average American kid looks at and says "yeah this is cool". Doubtful on that. That look works in Japan, but in the US ... not so much.

These faces dont look like anime characters... S E is moveing towards more western friendly graphics:

They look like boy band rejects. That look is not going to drive the average Western gamer crazy.

I think Japan console industry shrinkage hurt them a lot. They realized they needed to make more western friendly games, but they just were not good at that. Also, the FPS craze hurt them most, they just don't make that genre.

I think they realize games they are actually good at making are making a comeback.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Square Enix has redeemed themselves recently. Only thing they need to do is to announce a new Parasite Eve game and it's all forgiven.

Despite all the bruhaha over FF7 Remake IMO S-E's Japanese RPGs won't resonate with Western gamers as much. The realistic graphics will make their RPGs look ridiculous to the Western market IMO. Like the J-Pop boy band look and all that isn't going to fly this gen. 90s/early 2000s are over.

I still also think Nintendo's 3DS successor is what will dominate in Japan not the PS4. There's maybe 2-3 million who will buy a PS4 for Final Fantasy, and then what? Nintendo will sell 25 million units there. Japan has changed too, in the PS2 hey day Sony did not have to contend with portable 3D games.

Yeah good luck with that. 3DS hasn't even hit 20m yet and the next Nintendo handheld will perform even worse due to the continuous rise of mobile. I also never said anything about PS4 dominating Japan so I'm not entirely sure where you got that from.

Actually, the 3DS has sold better than the GBA in Japan. Although the Japanese do love mobile gaming, they still have a thing for dedicated gaming handhelds, as is evidenced by the fact that the 3DS has outsold the GBA even though the GBA had no competition.

The GBA had competition. It had to deal with the PS2 back when console gaming wasn't a carcass in Japan. And it only had like a three year lifecycle. Unless Nintendo does something drastically different with their next handheld, I think it's going to be down from 3DS.

We'll see. It's also close to outselling the PSP, if VGC's numbers are to be believed. You may not be downplaying the sales, but the 3DS is certainly a success in Japan. No two ways about it.

No doubt about that. 3DS has done very well in Japan.

Thoughts?

I don't think so. Rise of the Tomb Raider is latest example of that

Then why the Rise of Tomb Raider Xbone (timed) exclusive. So much for Sony being number one and FF7 is heading to PC as well.

But Sony is still number one.

And I'm talking more about their Japanese output rather than what's going on with Eidos. Keep up with the discussion please.

I admit that Ps4 has some exciting games coming up in 2016 especially The Last Guardian.

But after E3 i think PC is just killing it getting the best from both console exclusives like Street Fighter V, Rise of Tomb Raider, FF7,Shenmue 3 and Killer Instinct.

Finally people are starting to realize that PC is the true way to game. Someday we might even see Nintendo games on PC.

There is no "true way" to game. Its all about what you prefer.
