Forums - Gaming - Is the Wii U the worst console of all time?(OP clarification)

It has the best games of this generation. Worst sales? Yes. Worst console? No way unless you have no actual brain or haven't played any of its games.

The gamepad allowing offscreen play alone means it is utilized.

I do hope you know that offscreen play is not a wii u exclusive feature.

check out the vita/ps4 combo.

Or got the second screen enhancement, look at fallout 4.

"several key Nintendo IP" - where are they? gamecube had metroid, animal crossing, 2 zeldas, 3d mario, luigi's mansion, eternal darkness, f-zero, 2 3d pokemon games, fire emblem, and more, does the wii u have those?

Splatoon is a decent new IP, but compared to animal crossing (gamecube new IP), metroid prime (gamecube spawned), wii sports (wii new IP) and xenoblade chronicles (wii new IP), calling Splatoon the "best new Nintendo IP in probably 20 years" is laughable.

Yes, I will call the wii u library the weakest out of Nintendo consoles when it is clearly missing many games and IP that the others had, no not just b/c tier games, I'm talking about metroid, animal crossing, 3d mario,...

The N64 didn't have Metroid, either.

The low point in Nintendo consoles for me would be in the holiday season of 1997, when Nintendo had absolutely nothing to offer after Goldeneye launched in September, so they had Rare slap together Diddy Kong Racing. Just six months or so after Mario Kart 64 came out. The only third-party offerings they had were Snowboard Kids, Chameleon Twist, and a hockey game from Midway which was barely updated from the one Midway launched in 1996. The Wii U has never had anything quite that embarrassing.

Oh, yeah, they did have Madden 64, so they did at least have EA Sports on board. Except that EA could only get the license from the NFLPA and not from the NFL itself. So instead of the Patriots vs. the Giants, you had Foxboro vs. New York City. LOL. It would have honestly been better if EA had skipped the N64 with Madden that year.

the n64 clearly didn't have metroid, but it did have what is known as the best game of all time (ocarina of time) and its sequel (majora's mask), and a 3d defining game (mario 64), and a prominent shooter (goldeneye), and 3rd party support among many other things.

Did the n64 go through tough times, sure, but overall they had games that were truly worth looking back at with joy. The wii u is still missing some critical hits before it reaches the same level

I think the N64 console was the console that disappointed me the most. Japanese third-party games were all the rage back then, and save for Konami throwing it the occasional bone, the Japanese third parties flat-out ignored the N64. And Nintendo's first-party droughts were brutal, and their constant delays were embarrassing. A lot of N64 games I did want died in development hell. Eventually I got so tired of waiting for N64 games that I went out and bought a PS1, which was crawling with RPGs and other stuff I love.

I guess I've accepted that Nintendo will always lag behind in third parties, though I did appreciate them getting Tales of Symphonia and Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube. Nowadays, neither the PS4 nor the Xbox One are exactly swimming with games I'm dying to play, so Wii U's software droughts are less garing to me than the N64's were.  Bayonetta 2 was my favorite game of last year, hands down.

Plus, while Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were great, I prefer Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. :)

I suppose the Wii U is the worst gaming console, once you exclude all consoles that are actually worse than it.

Oh come on. Not even close. The exclusive games that it has are among the best I've ever played.
IMO, it is the BEST console of all time!

@everyone
I think you guys should not use a semantic loophole and say "Well, X console by an obscure company is worst" that is like me saying that "My little brother made a console and that one is worst than Wii U." I am talking about "serious" console creators like Microsoft, Sega, Sony and Nintendo. I dare anyone to say that the Wii U is better than any of consoles made by any of this companies and you will see how the Wii U stacks up poorly even against the original Xbox or the PSone.

Read the title of your own thread.

Love that picture so much lol.

OT perhaps change the title of the thread to include you're basing it on the past 7 years and are not including companies who have released worse consoles... which includes Nintendo themselves.

I don't think you can edit titles. I think most people get my point, however, especially superchunk. I see that i don't need to

@SanAndreasX

Are you serious? The Vita has Gravity Rush(new IP), Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Persona 4. Just with a quick google check you can see those games and tonsothers. The Wii U? Mass Effect(port) and a bunch of the same old Kart, Smash and Mario 3D land(side scroller not even in the levels of galaxy or sunshine) Nintendo has so little faith in the Wii U that they even release the same game(smash 4) for the DS to not lose money. I think you truly need to wake up and accept that nintendo needs to change their strategy, they messed up this generation. Most of the games you list like fire emblem and xenoblade you could pretty much get the same experience by buying a DS.

I like how you don't mention Bayonetta 2, which ended up one point shy of Bloodborne on metacritic. Even with all the controversy surrounding it. Or Splatoon. Or Captain Toad which was nominated for GOTY in game design.

Going by your logic, you could get the same Uncharted experience by buying a PS3. Which is why the Vita failed. Nobody wanted a handheld to play games that would be better served by playing them on a PS3. For that matter, why would I want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X on a 3DS instead of a Wii U?

I don't need to wake up to anything. Nintendo needs to change their strategy. There was no denial of that on my part. Doesn't change the fact that your thread was fallacious at the outset and you started moving the goalposts when people called you out on it.

I personally love the gamepad. Off tv play alone makes it worth it. And honestly the concept is not that hard to understand it makes your tv a DS, people are just dumb and Nintendo is bad (like really bad) at marketing. And frankly M$ and Sony have yet to release anything that makes me want their systems. While Nintendo has actually released some games worth owning ( Mario Kart 8 is one of the best mario Karts). Also for all time there are way worse systems. It's way better than the virtual boy lol that's still the worst system Nintendo has made.
