For one, FF XV is an open world game. FF VII is a location based game with an overworld. The turn based battle system is already there (they better not fuck with it too much). The plot is there, yes they are going to add some stuff and change a few things, but its all there. The dev cycle could be fairly quick if they go with pre-rendered backgrounds in order to maintain the feel of the original (which I honestly hope they do). If this game takes rediculously long to make its not FF VII anymore, its a game based on FF VII... |
I think very differently. I think pre-rendered background became unacceptable in ps2 era already, and I even think cgi cutscenes are an offense in ps3/xbox 360 era. Pre-rendered background and cgi were a away to overcome technical limitations, with the processing power in current consoles it would be just lazy, its unacceptable. Like metal gear solid since ps1 has everything running in real time, and it always did great at that.

Well its been in production for a year (not sure the size of the team, could very well be 20 people lol) but Fall 2017 is really the absolute earliest. Just think of all the cinematics and cutscenes they're going to produce
It'll certainly be a 20th anniversary project but that doesn't mean it must launch in 2017. I'm pretty sure they're not going to release this game without it being perfect in their eyes. Add to that Squares recent success of delivering things in a timely fashion and 2018 seems the likliest release date.
Thats if the game is being outsourced or made by the FF16 team. If not then good luck to a release before 2018 as we'll be waiting for XV to be finished before it goes into full development.

Well it'll be a remake done to modern standards.
But you bring up an interesting point, many people have assumed this going to me remade in the vision of a modern RPG, fully explorable world, third person view, the whole works. For all we know it may be fixed camera, pre-rendered environment, top down/isometric perspective like the orginal. I think that would mortify alot of people, the CG trailer has set expectations of what they're going for.
December 2017 is my guess, so they have two years to finish it for the 20th anniversary.

Honestly when people were 1st begging for a FF VII remake (PS2 era) it was pretty simply a graphics update to the original which meant getting better character models, and better pre rendered backgrounds and major upgrades to the over world.
However since they waited 20 years I do think it is fair to expect it to get the full treatment and it will look like a new game.
psn- tokila
add me, the more the merrier.
Ultimately I don't care when it comes out, as long as it is polished and true to its roots
i think it'll be released in 2017 to coincidence with the 20th anniversary of ff7. SE did the same with Crisis Core, which was released in 2007 to coincidence with the 10th anniversary.
