To be honest the remake should be alot faster than an original game for obvious reasons.

For one, FF XV is an open world game. FF VII is a location based game with an overworld. The turn based battle system is already there (they better not fuck with it too much). The plot is there, yes they are going to add some stuff and change a few things, but its all there.

The dev cycle could be fairly quick if they go with pre-rendered backgrounds in order to maintain the feel of the original (which I honestly hope they do). If this game takes rediculously long to make its not FF VII anymore, its a game based on FF VII...

Well it'll be a remake done to modern standards.

But you bring up an interesting point, many people have assumed this going to me remade in the vision of a modern RPG, fully explorable world, third person view, the whole works. For all we know it may be fixed camera, pre-rendered environment, top down/isometric perspective like the orginal. I think that would mortify alot of people, the CG trailer has set expectations of what they're going for.

Honestly when people were 1st begging for a FF VII remake (PS2 era) it was pretty simply a graphics update to the original which meant getting better character models, and better pre rendered backgrounds and major upgrades to the over world.

However since they waited 20 years I do think it is fair to expect it to get the full treatment and it will look like a new game.
