I think very differently. I think pre-rendered background became unacceptable in ps2 era already, and I even think cgi cutscenes are an offense in ps3/xbox 360 era. Pre-rendered background and cgi were a away to overcome technical limitations, with the processing power in current consoles it would be just lazy, its unacceptable. Like metal gear solid since ps1 has everything running in real time, and it always did great at that.
