Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy 7 Remake may come sooner than we think

I expect it to come after KH3. If it came out sooner than that i would surely be surprised. Dont think i will though.

Since versus xiii turned into 10 years from announcement and release ( as ff 15, but whatever). This could take 10 years too... But I'm not a developer, and Sony biggest point for going x86 with ps4 was to make developers life easier, maybe this time around the system will help...

The exceptions don't make the rules. Square-Enix has delayed FF XIII a little, but managed to release 2 other games in the series on a timely fashion after that. Then there's Versus XIII, now XV, which went through production hell for god knows exactly why. That doesn't mean all of their games will now share that fate.

I see ff xiii sequels as the same as ffx-2, a good way to make fast money. In both cases they re-utilized a lot of the assets of the first game, I wouldn't count as a victory at all... This game wont be among us anytime soon, and nobody knows what to expect from it, I'll change my mind when I see some gameplay.

Thinking/hoping for a 2017 like other have mentioned to coincide with a 20th anniversary release. Would be great timing, although I'd rather they release something in a polished state, so if they need to delay it then I'm fine with waiting.

Fair enough. But as I said, I don't see a reason to think they can't ever again make games on a timely fashion like they did during the PS1 and PS2 era.

People, point your attention to the bolded parts!!

Here goes:

As previously reported, Square Enix are claiming that their Final Fantasy VII Remake was in development before the Final Fantasy VII port. Speaking with Dengekidirector Tetsuya Nomura had a few more words to share about the much anticipated remake.

Dengeki kicked off the interview by expressing their enthusiasm at how Final Fantasy VII could look in its new and evolved form on PlayStation 4, 20 years after its original release.

“I can’t share too much for now, but it won’t be a simple remake,” says Nomura. “If we were to simply just make the graphics look pretty for the new generation consoles, I don’t think it could surpass the original version. If that’s what you wanted, I think it’d be enough to just play the original International version on PlayStation 4, and it would be satisfying enough.”

“We’ve yet to show any screenshots from the game, but it has vastly evolved, so please look forward to it,” Nomura continues. “Again, this time, since the story is being handled by Nojima, that also means that there will be more work added to it, so please look forward to that as well.”

Dengeki points out that at the end of the video, they noticed something about an announcement that will be made this Winter.

“We plan on delivering more information around sometime this winter,” says Nomura. “At the very least, I believe that we will announce the official title, but we’re currently thinking about how much other information we’ll reveal, too.”

“I understand that many of you are waiting with great expectations, but we were finally able to announce it. It will be a little while longer until we can reveal more information, but we’re working hard to be able to meet your expectations. Please look forward to the next announcements,” Nomura concludes.

2017 is the 20th anniversary of FF VII, so that's no doubt what they're aiming for.
But from what I heard, Square Enix aren't the ones making this game, but rather Cyberconnect 2. Though I haven't seen any confirmation on this yet.

They're collaborating with Cyberconnect 2. But C2 isn't working on the project alone. They've most likely been contracted to help because of the sheer magnitude of the project.

2016 - Final Fantasy XV
2017 - Kingdom Hearts III
2018 - Final Fantasy 7

I think with the remake of FF7 they are probably setting themself for sequel and side games: another Dirge of Cerberus, a game for Advent Children. All depending on how much they sell. One copy already sold from me
