Combat is getting pretty boring in most JRPGs at this point.

Underage girls that are explicitly shown in these games never REALLY bothered me, but I can understand the annoyance and complaints. The same can be applied with annoying voices. I'm used to English dub voice acting in anime, so I guess it never bothered me in JRPGs.
Edit: Turn based gameplay anyone? Surprised no one listed that yet.

Random Encounters are the pits. You shouldn't do this anymore. They were used in the 80s because of memory limitations. When Lufia II arrived, there was just no excuse anymore.
I also hate having `1 trillion characters in my party. Once you cross that line, you're just asking me to forget some of the other characters. Chances are, if you have that many characters, there are some that you won't give a crap about.
Characters that look the same: One of the things that I have come to hate about modern JRPGS and JRPGS in general, is that everyone looks the same. They have the same hair styles, faces, etc. I know most are Anime styled but it gets tiring seeing the same guy all the time. "Blond or brown hair, sword wielder, etc.) The stereotypes are getting to me. (This is more of a rant)
Slow Battle Systems: I HATE games that have a battle system that's as slow as dirt. I hate pressing a button and having to wait 5 seconds for the attack to execute. It kills me! In addition to that, I can't stand Flashy special attacks that take an hour to show. It gets tiring after the first few uses.
I learned how to accept all that bullshit over the years of playing JRPG's.
But there is ONE THING! ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING! That I absolutely hate and those are the missable sidequests.
I LOVE doing them but try doing a Tales of game to it's 100%. It's impossible without a step by step guide that marks all the missable events. It drives me mad.

Same could be said about most shooters.

That nr 8 again... yeah and playing a game from a step by step basis with a guide just kills all the fun.
Just dont add stuff players can miss... its not fun, and makes people resort to replaying/restarting and following guides.... >_<'
I feel like when you have the choice to choose, between one thing or another its fine... like in Chrono cross.

This Argentinian gets it
This is one of the reasons I'll never 100% a Tales game. :/

JRPGS have always had a cheesy side with it's character design and dialogue because the Japanese audience is more accepting of this sort of thing. That makes them unique and less of a drag honestly.
Oh, I'm supposed to be complaining and a little nitpicky about JRPGS. I guess it's how JRPGS artificially extend the length of the game with random encounters. The environment was of course designed for this, but exploration could potentially lower the difficulty by overpowering the players party unnecessarily unless the player consciously makes the decision to flee these battles. And thats an extremely tedious process. This is a balance issue that I've rarely encountered, and the game that suffered from it most was FF XIII-2 but that was the least of it's problems

Cookie cutter characters. Ya know, the type of characters that you can guess their personality from their design.
Tales series being the perfect example.
Easy JRPGs is a major turnoff
Yeah, going to have to agree with voice acting. Always bad, no matter the language. The dialogue and story are usually very stupid. Never been a fan of turn based attacks/being hit with an attack no matter what. Never been a fan of level level/skill restrictions either which is why Elderscrolls/Fallout(pre ESO..) are imo the best RPGS ever made. I don't think they have too many party members. If anything I hate the fact you can never use all the party members at the same time which many RPGS suffer from including elderscrolls and fallout, unless of course you use an exploit or mod. I think the interaction with party members as well as other NPCS is usually empty and just terrible. Also character design is always just awful. Characters usually have terrible hair, over-sexed, and just over all bad design. Always feel unrealistic, plastic, if not just entirely too cartoony.
The only time I really enjoyed an RPG from japanese developers is when they make WRPGS like Dragon's dogma, bloodborn, demon/dark souls.

All Hail the Jester King. The King is back, and I am still a dirty girl prof ;)
I love JRPGs, but a gripe I have is they generally take me months to beat due to breaks and often when I jump back in I have that period of "what was I doing? where am I going?" so I think every JRPG should have the ability to say "Go to Town X" or "Talk to Person Y" prompt (Tales of Xillia did this great) so that I don't spend time brute forcing talking to everyone and wondering around just to remember what I was doing two months ago.
