You can say that about EVERY game EVER.

For example, why did people think The Order 1886 would sell well? Was a short, single player only, cinematic experience. Still managed to sell a reasonable 800k.

Yes it could be Nintendo fans hyping it up, but fans of every console hype up everything exclusive on their console of choice.

Also, it depends on your definition of selling well. Personally anything selling around 1mill is very well.

Well, as in over a million. Many people on this site seem to think that this is going to sell 2 million+, which I see as being incredibly unlikely. I think that splatoon will sell 600-800K. I'm not saying. I think the 1.2 million is the most this game could do. It's a new IP on a failing system. So, I'm not saying this game will flop, but I don't see it selling an amazing amount like how so many people on this site seem to think.

Well, then let's bet on it. If it sells over 1.2 million, I win. If it doesn't sell 1.2 million by the end of 2016, you win. Loser has to change their avatar to a picture of their mom for a month.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

To answer the OP:
#1, This is predominantly a Nintendo site.
#2, Nintendo fans are thirsty for a new Ninty IP. Just google search fan art.
#3, First big game of 2015 for Wii-U. (Though MP is no slouch, it sorta came and went.)

There's no reason to believe it'll perform poorly (like Bayo 2 predictably did), but it isn't an established brand. Splatoon will sell very well for what it is.

I really just don't see how this game will sell that well. It's a new type of shooter, sure, but was anyone really asking for a shooter like this? To me, it gives off a vibe of a $20 downloadble game, not a $60 release. Like if fat princess cost the price of a full game. It just doesn't look worth it to me.  I'm not saying that this looks like a bad game by any means, I just don't see how this game has mass appeal. Can someone honestly explain this to me? Because I really just don't see where all this confidence is coming from.

Why you get vibes of $20 downloadable game?

In current state, It have single player campaign of around 7 hours, it have 5 maps and two mods for multiplayer, its very polished, fun and good game, and its free online, also they anancued a ton of free content through whole summer, with new maps every week or two, new mods, new weapons...

How do you see all that like a $20 downloadable game!?

Why we think it sell well?

-Incredibly fun and good game
-completly new and innovative gameplay
-fits Wii U community perfectly in terms of graphics, artstyle and gameplay
-testfire demo was a huge sucsess, almost only very positive feedback
-Nintendo is really pushing this game, almost like Mario Kart, they see Splatoon like next new big IP

Splatoon: a 7 hour campaign, short. 5 maps, not enough. 2 game mods.

Fat princess: 3.5 hours single player mode, 8 maps at launch, 6 multiplayer gamemodes.

Both were unique games with a unique artstyle.

Fat princess costed $15 when it came out.  Please tell me how these two aren't comparable?

First, this is a first time ever that I heard for that game.

After little research, both game only could be compared in initial content, Splatoon is Nintendo triple AAA 3D shooter game with focus on online, that only lacs some content on launch, but we already know that more free content is arriving.

So, I cant relly see how you can see Splatoon like a $20 downloadable game.

Oh look, the game is almost completely sold out in Japan.

EDIT: And saying that Splatoon is comparable to Fat Princess is on the border of trolling I would suggest. You think those games took the same man hours? No, you don't, as I say, you're just being a borderline troll.

It seems to me that splatoon will be a game that will create a lot of initial demand from nintendo fans (like pikmin 3), but will drastically die down over a short amount of time. The reviews weren't that good for a new ip. The content is abysmal upon launch and will only become mediocre after all the dlc arrives. The game is priced unreasonably high in the US (the market that actually could have made this game big). And the game is pretty much only marketed towrds kids. Why buy this game over black ops 2 ($20), or team fortress 2 (free), or borderlands collection ($50), or metroid prime trilogy ($20 eshop), or mass effect collection ($5 from flash sale, $25 regularly)? The summer is known for big game sales (check steam), but Nintendo is releasing a half-finished game at $20-$40 more than other proven classic titles. Overall the game should do around 800k-900k lifetime.

the testfire was fuckn awesome!

^Yep This!!

Like in this thread - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=202595&page=1 theres only one guy/girl REALLY complaining about the DEMO ( just the DEMO ), while like 90% of the people on that thread basically dis agreed on him/her.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I hope it does OK at least though (about 1 mill WW maybe more) so that it encourages Nintendo to take some chances and to really market new IP. It doesn't really do anyone any good if it doesn't go over well.

Yeah agree to an  extremely offensive thing!Applause!

We buy what we like and we consider good,so behave yourselves,guys...

I often hold back my true thoughts on Nintendo. You see my PC versions of my real opinions. And I hardly ever comment on Nintendo, so no big deal.

OK off you go then, close the door on your way out.

Unlike some games, Nintendo is really pushing this game. that been said, hard for me to imagine the game doing titanfall numbers (2.5m) but it doesnt need to reach that numbers to sell well.

Expectations are raised because Nintendo is spending a lot of money on its marketing campaign + it's a game in a very underrepresented genre on Wii U.
