ZombiU, wonderfull 101, bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. PS fans did it back in 2007-2009 now it's Nintendo's fans turn to over hype anything with little to average sales potentials. Many people think that's why ioi left this site. gg

Aside from Wonderful 101 all of those games have good sales for a console with a userbase the size of the Wii U's. Nevertheless, I would say that the hype surrounding all of those games was nothing compared to the hype around Splatoon and that Splatoon will guaranteed outsell them all.

GG!!!!!

I can agree on most of your comment except for HW. Im one of the most optimistic Nintendo fans on this site, and unless your talking about 1, maybe 2 people nobody in hell believedHW would be close to a new traditional Zelda :(

NOOOOOOOOO 1!!!!!!!!!

It's not close to a new traditional Zelda though.

I love how people is moving the goal post everytime Splatoon achieve something.

First was going to be a bomba, a game with no hype, no marketing, no support, a big flop on metacritic,  etcetc

Now shows signs to be a success, the hype is really high, the marketing was comparable to MK8, the support of the game is gonna be huge, also on MK8 levels, and it has a pretty good score on meta with very nice comments on the reviews and the promise to become even better very soon.

So now the game is just an expensive indie game that people is buying because they have nothing more to play and the biased journalists are overscoring it because ... Nintendo

I was expecting all this, to be honest, the better Splatoon does, the more hate has. But that is not going to change anything, Splatoon is going to be a huge success for a new IP, and people can say whatever they want.

I thought the marketing for Mario Kart 8 was mediocre. It sold because it's freaking Mario Kart (and came with a free game on top of that), but the TV ads for MK8 were lame. I saw the commercial for Mario Kart like maybe once or twice? I saw more commercials for Sunset Overdrive, the ads for MK8 were poor.

The OP is right probably in the sense that Splatoon isn't going to be some huge hit. I don't agree that it should be a $20 DLC title though.

In general cartoony games that aren't based on a well established kids or Nintendo mascot brand aren't doing so hot right now anyway. So Splatoon has an uphill climb. Also the Wii U userbase is so small and so abysmally terrible at supporting anything that doesn't have Mario or Link on the box. If it ain't LEGO, Mario, or Minecraft ... good luck as a cartoony IP on home console.

It got 147 points at COMG, trending high right now on Amazon US, Japan, and other Amazon sites around the world, and is doing competently well on other store sites. All the indicators are there that it will do well enough. As for "no one asking for it," many hit series were once the first of their kind.

You're right. It doesn't have mass appeal and it will not sell that great. I still imagine it selling enough to make money just off the good reviews and good word of mouth.

To start out, I want to say that I'm legitimately asking this question and not trying to start a flame war (although a flame war may very well ensue). I really just don't see how this game will sell that well. It's a new type of shooter, sure, but was anyone really asking for a shooter like this? To me, it gives off a vibe of a $20 downloadble game, not a $60 release. Like if fat princess cost the price of a full game. It just doesn't look worth it to me.  I'm not saying that this looks like a bad game by any means, I just don't see how this game has mass appeal. Can someone honestly explain this to me? Because I really just don't see where all this confidence is coming from.

Have you played it? I'm guessing since you asked this question, then it's a no.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

PLS, make the the +3,000,000 option in the poll.

Ok what is your take on Splatoon's Lifetime Sales? Why cant it be a huge hit? What is a huge hit on WiiU?

To me a huge hit would be splatoon selling 1mil lifetime, because its on WiiU/New IP/Etc... Also if you believe what you just posted, 1mil is more than enough
