I'm amazed. A gamer who has never owned a playstation console (but you have played some before right? RIGHT?!)
If you had to play only 2 of the games, play the 2 Metal Gears. Call it bias, but my personal top 6 list of single player games is comprised entirely of Zelda, Mario and Metal Gear games

Find any connector but composite. Composite is the worst. I got a S Video cable for my ps2 and that looks pretty good. I would have went component if I could have.

Play Metal Gear Solid 3, Resident Evil 4, and Devil May Cry. I had the best experiences with those. Half Life, Splinter Cell, and Hitman are good as well.

Finally joined the dark side have you? About time! And what an excellent way to begin.

Do acknowledge the fact that some of these games are the best part of 15 years old now, though. So they're not all going to be playing well and they'll likely feel dated. Also if you get a chance definitely pick up the original R&C (even if it isn't the best it's still great) and also the PoP trilogy.

That's great news. And PS2 is the way to go. It's Sony's best console and it's backward compatible!

You've already got many of the best games: Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, God of War I & II, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, Everything or Nothing, and PC ports of Deus Ex and Half-Life. Red Faction and Dark Alliance are excellent also.

I strongly recommend, in addition to those, Ico (my pick for best PS2 exclusive), Shadow of the Colossus, The Precursor Legacy, Okami, and the PS2 Grand Theft Auto games.
