Highly recommend Suikoden 2 & 3 and Grandia II. Those three were couple of my favorites games of their generation.

| Kresnik said: Yep. Sucks, doesn't it? At least the otaku ghetto has kept things alive through the 7th gen. And hey, Square Enix revived Star Ocean, so anything can happen! Have to admit though, I prefer playing JRPG's on handhelds these days. Suspend/resume and playing wherever I am just suits them pretty damn well. And Wild ARMs is the one that hurts the most. Can't believe we never got a new one in the 7th gen, even though Media Vision are still alive and Sony need to sell consoles in Japan! Ugh. |
I know handheld games aren't bad, I have DS library that rivals my ps2 library to prove it. However something about game on the big screen makes you more involved and love with the game. Or it does for me. Also so surprised we haven't gotten a Wild Arms in a long time, even as a late PSP/Vita game.

Here is why thread is still not accurate:
Shining is accurate example of a JRPG series migrating away from consoles. The last Shining game on a console was on PS2. Since then handheld.
How can wild arms be disappearing from consoles when more than half its series is on consoles? There has been no wild arms since X Fire. We cant say it disappeared from consoles when there are no new installments to prove that.
What you really want to say is "dormant JRPG series". That still Wouldn't be accurate... Legend of Mana was not ment to be a its own series, its a installment of the series. Mana has had many mainline installments since then
Or maybe the lastest "JRPG console releases"
You might want to add Growlanser, Arc The Lad, SaGA and Sakura Wars (unless the Wii port counts as a new entry)
How I miss Suikoden, this list is the reason I'm not interested in the PS4...

Well like I said I am focusing on the home console front. Also disappearing from home console could mean they either went to a new medium (Breath of Fire) or no new entry (Shadow Hearts). I don't know why you are all caught up on Wild Arms.
It remains that both Wild Arms and Suikoden who share similar stories haven't had a title in a long time and also haven't had home console game since the ps2.
I think the current title is perfectly fine and it showcases my intent to showcase how so many beloved home console titles are no longer in that space and how a lot of them would be loved if they returned.

x ) Grandia 2 is one of my all time fav RPGs of all time, so I've played that a couple times already. And 3 is one of the those in my possession x ) All I need is 2. But if I can, I reaaaally want Shadow Hearts. That game sounds way too good to be true.

Growlanser I don't know much about, so you have to quickly fill me in. I will add Arc The Lad and research SaGA. Sakura Wars I will say counts with the Wii Port, however that as well might have disappeared home console space.

Is this really worthy of argument?

To me, the future of the series was very much on the rocks due to Square Enix's direction with franchises like Star Ocean (i.e. not Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest = not interested), which is why it was such a surprise they announced Star Ocean 5. I'm not really saying it has anything to do with Tri-Ace's average development times between entries. If you think it wasn't dead and you were certain it was coming back after Star Ocean 4, that's great. Props to you. That's certainly not how it felt to me. |
Kresnik, statements like "to me" or "in my eyes" is jusy shutting out conflicting information so you keep your view.Im not saying what you think is flat out wron, but how that effected tri-Ace. SO5's development time is in with the companies development cycles. Period man. SE said at one point they only wanted sequels to popular franchises. As I said before, tri-Ace always experiments, tries something new. That would explain why they had to partner with SEGA and Konami to work on new projects. That would also explain the long break from its popular ips. They just wanted to something else.
