Forums - Gaming - People say PC games dont sell?? (Continued with more sales)

Just looked at Skyrim, looks like 2/3 have bought it at 5 bucks lol , probably more because steamspy doesnt track past price points and this game went on sale a dozen times.

Doubt even a million bought it full price.

You forgot about diablo III. Holy christ those numbers.

Anyway people can say whatever they want, i've seen people saying that most games shown at e3's sony conferences run on PS4, while everyone knows most of them run on PC.

So some people and console users like to say PC games dont sell. You hear this many a time no matter what site you visit.

Who says that? I'd really like to know because it's a comment I've never come across myself. Or are you making stuff up to pretend you need to educate people?

Also quite lol with the Skyrim. 70% of sales ocurred while the game was temporarily at $5.

I am confused by how the ownership number graph can have a decrease. How do you disown a digital game? Does steam have an 2 or 3 day return/refund facility? If so there is a lot of churn, with at one point a peak of 8.47 million owners and then just a few days later a low point of 8.21 million.

The Steam figures showed 230k concurrent players on the first day of release and after two days, it was reported that the game had sold around 3.5 million retail copies, with 14-15% of those being on PC, making around 500k more, add the full week plus the fact that those were 230k concurrent users playing the game, meaning that there were likely quite a few more who actually bought the title on Steam as well, plus factor in other digital services and it is reasonable to assume that Skyrim on PC crossed that million easily in its first week on the PC.

In early January 2013, about 14 months after Skyrim's release, it was still the most played game on the network and showed 5 million players, at this point the game was still quite expensive and there had been only one or two sales, the biggest discount over this period was 50% (I remember this vividly since I bought the game day one, expecting it to fall slowly in price, it was during the summer sale of 2012).

In other words; you're making the same ridiculous assumptions most others do about PC gaming and it is beyond obvious that a million or more bought it at full price unless you're suggesting it was discounted in its first week and then stayed there.

Hey guys let's avoid comments regarding piracy or torrenting, it's not really relevant to the topic at hand and it's coming off as bait.

But it's extremely on topic as anyone can pirate a copy and then link it to their Steam account.

Errr no they cant. No one can download a copy and link it to their steam account. They can add it as a non steam game but it still wouldnt show up in their games lists and also wouldnt show on steamspy so please like Leadified said lets leave talk of piracy out of this thread as it has nothing to do with sales of PC games.

This has been the opposite of my experience. It may be different based on the game, but I know several people who have FF14 in their games list without purchasing it from the store.

Its a comment thats very wide spread and you know it but im not going to go around digging up random comments you can do that if you want to disprove my point..

No matter when most of its sales happened doesnt matter point is it still sold great.

If you went to the site and read how it works that could be adjustments to the chart the same way as sales get adjusted here etc..

I don't know it actually. All I know is people observe that PC doesn't sell much in the physical copy department, which is true, but anyone with basic knowledge of PC game sales knows that physical sales are virtually dead in the PC world compared to digital download sales.

You are the one making the claim. I'm just asking for the evidence you have that makes the claim true. Is it OK now for people to throw out random claims about what "people" allegedly say without having to back up those claims with actual evidence?

Think that applies to retail.

And also how with Steam, most AAA games don't even sell unless they are HEAVILY discounted.

Can't agree with that, GTA V has been selling like hotcakes at full price on there.

Lol I bet millions of these copies are from $1-5 deals.

Probably, but 30 million copies of Skyrim at $1 a piece is still $30 million (yes I know the real figure would be far north of this). So the dodgy old PC port must have been immensely profitable.

there is n way, those sales are real

PC games sell well but not as good as consoles

World of Warcraft 2004 -2015 and Diablo3 say otherwise. Honestly those who say PC games don't sell are just insecure fanboys.
