Forums - Gaming Discussion - ESPN Radio Host Slams Competitive Gaming

He is an asshole, true, but never the less I have to agree. E-sports are not sport... like it or not. ANd to be honest I find it to be a dumb waste of time to watch a tournament :|

Just my 2 cents.

ESPN radio? Is that even real radio? He'd probably puke in his mouth if he had to cover chess as well, so it's not much of an opinion.

Why would anyone even listen to e-sports commentary? You've got to watch it. And seriously, Heroes of the Storm? That is the weakest and noobest MOBA out there. I don't think the pro e-sports community even takes that game seriously.

What does Harry Potter have to do with Donkey Kong? Does he really think those things are even remotely related?

His life must be boring.

Can't say I disagree. In fact, if I was a pro sports commentator and someone asked me to cover competitive gaming I'd probably respond in the exact same way

Agreed. I just honestly don't see "gaming" as a sport. I know a lot of people are passionate about it on here though.

"Cowherd went on to say that he "tolerated" Donkey Kong, but stopped caring about fantasy worlds after the Harry Potter series."

That's the stupidiest thing I've heard all day and I went on NeoGAF today.

You'd probably have the same reaction is someone asked you to cover lawn bowls too. Doesn;t make it a non-sport though. Among interntaional sporting federations, like SportAccord, Chess and Bridge (the card game!) included as sports. If these associations fit under the international sporting umbrella then eSports do too. Darts is there as well, basically a sport that's played in a bar while the competitors drink beer and smoke cigarettes.

I think one should consider the motivation for people wanting to exclude eSports from being considered a sport. It's a form or elitism where people want to see video games as some how unworthy. And it's that elitist attitude that pisses me off, which is why I'd like to see eSports recognised under the international sporting umbrella.

I love sports and I love gaming. Gaming is absolutely not a sport.

What about singing ? or drawing? or spelling bees?

Skill based competition doesn't automatically make it a sport. All sports are games, but not all games are sports. If anything you should argue that because e-sports aren't a sport  Bridge shouldn't be either. Not the other way around.

Competitive gaming doesn't belong with the meat heads down at ESPN anyways.

Why are esports hated so much on a gaming site? Don't you see, in the past only people with athletic bodies could spend the time they should be learning playing a game with the childish hope of becoming a superstar athlete. Now people of any body type can spend the time they should be learning playing a game with the childish hope of becoming a superstar athlete. Even if you are a woman!

Edit: I forgot that gamers are equally sexist and intolerant.
