A lot of people expected X to get The Last of Us style scores. After hearing about how X is the Second Coming of Christ I guess they didn't expect a 34/40.

No they didn't...

You greatly misunderstand the perception others have of XCX and its hype campaign. From reading VGC and the commentary from it, I'm expecting an masterpiece and as many have stated the sequel the game of last generation. With great noteriety, comes greater expectations. A 85 review average would be incredibly disappointing.

And as you say it's very unlikely that P&D will do so well in the West (though that's another matter altogether), so let's see rather than going crazy and burning our Riki plushies.

There is such a thing as a Riki-plushie? Why did nobody say that, why I don't have one?

There is a large difference between considering something to be a "masterpiece" or a "game of the last generation" and expecting high review scores. Most people don't expect a 95% metacritic, heck being a JRPG in 2015 alone disqualifies it from such a high score, although it is not unrealistic to expect a metacritic similar to Xenoblade Chronicles (92%) and Famitsu's score doesn't change the likelihood of that happening. 85% seems like a low-end estimate, although it is certainly possible.

I would dearly hope that "Game of the Generation" is higher praise than masterpiece. There were several masterpieces last generation.

That's likely a minority. Most people have reasonable expectations for XCX.

The sad thing is that if XCX had scored just 2 points higher, no one would be talking shit in this thread. It's known that Famitsu is not a consistent indicator of quality.

The constant brand loyalty that people feel the need to spew is just disgusting to me. Do something more productive than shitting on something you never cared about to begin with.

Like shitting on Famitsu for giving the game a lower score than what the people who haven't played it yet think it deserves?

Yeah. Nobody here has played the game, so all comments are baseless so far.

This is literally just a brand war, and it's sad.

It seems to me as if Game of the Generation is a subset of masterpiece. Regardless, I don't see your point? One can recognize a game as their "Game of the Generation" while still predicting lower review scores.

JRPG of the Generation is what I've heard. It was my personal GotG, but that's my opinion. However, it is for this reason that I've never expected XCX to be better than XC.
