I think I know why you're having such a hard time finding "girl gamers"...because you have weirdly strict qualifiers. Why does she need to be good? I know several girls who play console/pc games regularly.

Even if the average is lower than in my personal experience, I bet between 10-15% of "gamers" are girls.

How many 35 year old women do you know that are hard core gamers? Be honest now. How many 35 year old women, who grew up playing NES as little girls, stand in line at launch to buy a PS4 or Xbox One... just for themselves? Do you know of any? Because I don't. The only 30 somethings I know are all males. By this point (my age) women have all "grown out of it." And if you can grow out of it, you weren't really hard core to begin with imo.

I may be wrong about 5%... but it's somewhere near the basement. It could be 10%... 15% maybe, like you said But it's low if I had to guess. I'd like a real poll and study done though so we could see.

ROFL Well - lets see - WoW has 10m subs - and they have always trended 50/50 female.  So there is 5 mil.

Outside of that I'm married to one - and my Ex is one - although neither plays consoles - they play PC - actually I will say that most hard core female gamers I know are PC based.

The only casual female gamers I know use consoles - although every gamer I know (male or female - I work next to a guy who is in the top 100 gamerscores for XBox live in the US - it got him a free xbox one at launch) - every one - has played farmville and candy crush.

WTF else are you supposed to do waiting at a dr. office for an appointment?

So lets see - wife - ex - and then out of friends close enough to actually chat on the phone it would be... 4 - although one of them is under 35 so mabey she shouldn't count according to you eh?  That total would be 6 - and that's just my little circle of the world and I'm anti-social.

None of them are 'casual gamers' - a couple of them ran in world first everquest guilds back in the day.   My wife for example plays diablo 3 - world of warcraft - archage - civ v - tomb raider - left for dead 2 - etc.

Hard to believe I'm a decade away from being of average videogame playing age. And still so many people would consider playing videogames as childish.

righ, and I'm surprised 50+ is 27%

I did notice  The ESA s supported by a Who s Who of games companies so the study is going to lean to their common interest both business and politcal no doubt-   I m sure they published what tehy wanted to and may not or will not let some of the more in depth data out to the public

That sounds paranoi

nothing paranoid- just common sense-  Is there something i am suppossed to be paranoid of?  Please do tell

I can see that. My lady loves playing mobile games. We are in the same task force in Boom Beach ;)

Yeah I was thinking about the numbers from the links I put in http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7223535 post and if you would compare those numbers to Candy Crush users of whom 97% do not pay any money to play the game just enjoying the free parts of it. So if you look at the daily user figure at 2.5m and go for 3% of that you still have 75k people per day who play it and would spend cash in it, massive numbers if you were to think those users even spent a dollar per day that's be $525000 per week from it. Crazy money.

$1/day seems quite low. As someone has recently quit a very competitive game that was freemium, I know people who were spending $50/week often. During big events, I had allies spending more than $500 for a single event. These games have their whales.

yeah I know, I'm just saying that if you were to take it as conservatively as possible with the 1dollar for 3% of the player base it ends up being over half a million dollars per week from it. That is not accounting for such things as in game advertising that they would make a ton from as well considering 2.5m daily users.

That's the thing about those mobile games they might be free to the majority of people who will have the will power to not get their credit card out to unlock the content faster... but for the 3% who do they are 3% of a massive figure so it's still $$$ for Kimmy West

:o they must be rich... right? Either that or they will get bankrupted by a game.

People complain about $60 for a console game, but that's very cheap in comparison

I know! I asked people several times, "Why! Why do you spend so much money on a phone game!". The response were always either "I like it, so I don't care." or "It's pretty much my only hobby, so I don't mind spending money on it".

So, yeah. -_-

How many CONSOLE core gamers are women in their mid 30's? I'm talking about consoles here. That's the entire point of my original post is that I'd like to see a console only poll because I'm pretty sure those gender percentages would be drastically different.

Why does that matter? Do you want to see a poll about how many 36 year old, Xbox One only gamers that just play Titanfall are women?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Can I not have that curiostiy? Is that some horrible sin? lol. Yes, I'd like to see a study done that examines how many women between the ages of 18-45 bought a console for themselves and play on a regular basis. I'm curious as to how many females identify as hard core console gamers.

I agree. I could see some feminist using the ESA's gaming stats to try to convince developers/publishers/general public that sexualized characters is wrong based on the idea that the average gamer is 44% female and that they don't want to see it. it's simply not true because they conviently counted mobile into that.
