Duh - that's the entire point of my response (bolded parts for emphasis). You can't ignore the PC market because it's "not console." The game overlap is to large to do so for the industry as a whole.

My quote of AlfredoTurkey was in response to what he posted and not to what you two were discussing. If you would of asked me about my post, I would of elaborated on it. You're looking for something that wasn't there in the my posts or what you thought I intended with 'em.
ESA should of had the stats seperate for home console, pc, handheld and mobile but they didnt. Was it because of laziness, ignorance or attempt to skew data? I don't know but the data is a misrepresentation of the core gaming market. Its like if I asked what were the sale hardware sales numbers for 2014 in the states and someone gave me the numbers for hardware sales in the states for 2014 with 2013 lumped in.
Just for the fun of it.
Quoted from you.
"lets see - WoW has 10m subs - and they have always trended 50/50 female. So there is 5 mil."
You're wrong. It's a bit old but it's a reliable source.

The other two systems just don't have that kind of portal. Females are playing all sorts of games, from games like Darksiders,Mario 3D world, Tomadachi Life,Animal Crossong New Leaf is huge with the female market. Plus Females like RPG where they can create their own characters and wander of.. Also mobile/Tablets has brought a lot of female gamers to the hobby. We have to come to terms guys ,The Females are here to stay.. I don't mind. well i do when they beat the living daylights out of me on Tekken Tag 2 though.. |
No one minds if there are more female gamers, but it's a fact that most female play different kind of games. They don't like the competitive stuff and bite in the casual more than guys do. You can't ignore this, it's pretty evident. This kind of aggregate data can't be used as a marketing tool, but it can be used to push the hipster agenda of political correctness (no sexualized characters, less violence, no prostitution ecc.). Let's not forget that games like GTA are under constant attack by feminst people, hotline miami has been banned due to a (fake) rape scene with 16-bit graphics. That's my only gripe with this stuff. If the ladies want to play their games I'm happy, if they want to play my games I'm more than happy, but I don't want them to rule what kind of game is acceptable for me to play.

Well said. Worded better than what I wrote earlier.

| BruB said: What gets me is the percentage of gamers that drops from age 18-35 to 36-49. It takes a 13 percent drop. Then from age 50 it takes a hike back up to 27percent. What happens when you get to 36 do large proportion of gamers suddenly say ,NO ,No more gaming ,not till I'm 50.. Well i know it didn't happen to me when i reached 36. There's all these gamers out there at age 36 just stop gaming , if it's true maybe that's the age group games companies need to aim to. We need to get them back.. Fourteen years without playing a game.. what are they all in asylums in straight jackets. |
My guess is many become parents in their 30s and kids are expensive and time intensive. Then kids grow up and graduate when they are in their 50s so suddenly coffers are looking better and have time to yourself.
My parents hardly ever played on the NES and SNES, but now they definitely play some on their computers and phones. Probably played 100 games of "Trivia Crack", a Trivial Pursuit type game, with my Dad. That he understands, but something like Street Fighter would be too much for him.

"Anecdote about women seeming to favor PC gaming"
"Post saying CONSOLES are all that count"
"I agree"
"response to both saying you can't ignore the PC as a platform as the games overlap"
"I didn't say anything about PCs!"
Honestly you are correct there is no possible way I could take "I agree" as anything more than complete adoption of the previous post - which was about PCs by being a response to a post ... about PCs. Feel free to pretend I didn't include you in the response if this rubs your feathers the wrong way.

404 error.
Here is one for you...
http://www.shacknews.com/article/58076/nielsen-estimates-400000-female-world
Sample: 1,104,334 unique players in north america
Women: 428,621 of those.
39% - in 2008.
I have no idea what source your guardian article is using as it's unavailable - but Nielson is usually a reliable source.

here's what I meant to have there. It's an interview with Paul Sams (blizzard COO). So it's more reliable than Nielson.
There's a link to the interview in here

Here's a link to the interview directly

To the bold part in your post, all you had to do was ask me to clarify what I meant.

Thanks - it's interesting that other sources (project daedalus for instance) were comming up with the same numbers - however the project shut down around then also.
From 2005:
| From the survey data, the average age of the WoW player is 28.3 (SD = 8.4). 84% of players are male. 16% are female. Female players are significantly older (M = 32.5, SD = 10.0) than male players (M = 28.0, SD = 8.4). On average, they spend 22.7 (SD = 14.1) hours per week playing WoW. There are no gender differences in hours played per week. |
The most recent information says the split in the US (all MMO's) is 60/40 - although I have no idea how reliable this site is...
